Since the 580EX is not out yet, is anyone using anything other than the 550EX? I know nothing has all of the features for the 20D but if you have good basic functionality, what works for you? Metz or Sigma anyone?
I understand the SCA 3102 is being updated for the 20D but won't be available until Nov. or Dec. Anyone think the Metz 54 MZ-4 is the best option?

I am using 420ex only because I was holding off on a 550ex to go right to the 580ex. I've found that it underexposes just a tad, so I usually dial in a bit of FEC and take a few snaps to guarantee at least one good exposure.

Same, I use the 420EX. I really have no need for the bulkier, pricier 550EX.
The 420EX works really well! As friscomgm said, it underexposes slightly, but that is normal. The 420EX on the DRebel did the same. This isn't a flash specific problem/feature, its more to do with the way the flash metering works with ETTL-II (and ETTL).
However, the exposurse are much more consistent now with ETTL-II on the 20D.
Just dial-up the FEC a couple notches, or all the way to the top. You virtually never have to worry about blown highlights from the flash with ETTL-II. :)

My experience with the 20D and new ef-s 17-85 lens, using either the on board flash or 420ex flash, is a bias toward over exposure. For some reason, and I can't figure this out, it happens more at wider focal lengths.
This applies to three differant bodies I'ver tried.
I've done numerous tests and the results are the same. This applies to outdoor flash "only" It requires anywhere from 2/3 to 1 full stop of negative FEC to get acceptable results.
No problem with indoor flash or ambient exposures.
Anyone have similar experience? I talked to Canon and they said to wait and see if I have the same problem using the new 580ex which I have on order.
This is a bit confusing since I have the same problem with the on board flash and ETTL 2 is promoted as being compatible with all EX series speedlights.
