Are prices negotiable in person at B&H?

depends on what you buy.
50mm 1.8 NO
600mm f4 yes
all depends on what and how much you buy.

Thanks, I do want some big glass, either the Sigma 500mm or hopefully a used 500-600mm Canon.

Hmmm.............I'm not too sure about that.
Maybe try one of the smaller stores...........i.e. 17th street photo or photo village. Still, I would never attempt it..........I would be sooo " "

All depends on how you ask. Something like, "This lens is $1500. Can you give a little post-Photokina discount?" or try to get something thrown if for free, like a lens bag or filter. Act a little undecided. A big dollar lens isn't something they sell all the time, and there's strong competition from on-line dealers. They want to make the sale. Give them a reason to negotiate.

BTW, what's a pseudo-10D?

I don't know why it would be embarassing to negotiate a lower price, we don't hesitate on cars and other big ticket items. I would also guess they sell more big glass that we think. Every serious sports photographer has a super telephoto. Just look at the world series or the super bowl and see all the big white glass. I have to believe B&H sells some percentage of them to news papers and periodicals and to individual photogs.

I ordered a couple of lenses from them on last Sunday. I "asked" for the best price ( I spent over $2000 ) and got the price that is listed on the net...... :(

I don't know............I am just not the haggling type. Maybe because my mom is Mrs. haggling queen............sometimes to the point of embarassment...........its very Freudian I know.

My experience with B&H is limited to in-store not mail order. A while ago I asked if they would meet a lower advertised price for a G2. I got a polite but quick no. (I doubt the B&H sales people have the authority to change prices.) On the other hand, when shopping at the much smaller 17th Street Photo, I always go with B&H documentation, and 17th Street Photo will usually match the B&H price if I bring it up. Typically the price differences between the two stores is minimal to non-existant, although recently I bought the Tamron 28-75 at 17th Street Photo for $329 while the price at B&H was $369. For this Tamron purchase B&H prices were not discussed, needless to say.

however, I went in one day and bought a D2H. Price on the web was and still is $3199: they charged me $3049 or something like that. I also have had experience where Adorama charged me about $100 less for a Sigma lens than it was listed for on the web.
I suppose it COULD have been a one day, unadvertised special but I have a feeling they MAY make adjustments based on your buying history and considering I've left most of my life's earnings there.
Again, I really don't know but still can't figure out why I got a slight discount (although, to be fair, the other items on the ticket were at advertised price).
