I'm happy with my limited amount of use and the price I paid for them. It does take a while to get to you but once you have it, it will do the job.

I don't think anyone had the phottix remote for a long long time for anyone to really respond how good it is. However for the present use, it has worked wonderfully for many people.

The only thing that bothers me is that you can't change the batteries on the remote itself easily unless you open it up with a screw driver. Then again, people have stated that you won't need to change the battery for a long long long time.

Yeah I've been very happy except when I first put in the battery and it overheated and melted a bit. But since swapping it around it's been fine. So just a warning MAKE SURE BATTERIES ARE INSERTED THE RIGHT WAY.

I ordered one about 2 weeks and it came just the other day.

It was the new model I believe(came with special instruction sheet explaining as such).

To my understanding I was just expecting to get a wireless reciever and wireless transmitter. On this one the wireless receiver is also a full cable release with all the same controls the wireless transmitter has.

kblair210

There's another thread here somewhere, I'll link it later if I can find it and get some free time. But it's called the CLEON I believe. Instead of just the receiver and the transmitter, the receiver now has a trigger on it as well. So you can use the receiver part as a wired trigger or use the transmitter for a wireless trigger.

Don't quote me and don't yell at me if it doesn't come true, but I emailed them (Phottix) asking about where to find the new model (as I couldn't find it listed anywhere) and they told me to order one of the regular ones advertised on eBay and they would ship the newer one. But they also said (and this was last week) that they were doing that last week and they were going to be as much as doubling the price soon on the new models.. so your mileage may vary. Email them and find out. :)

Mine showed up today in the mail so it ended up taking 15 days in all. They sent me that new Cleon version with the wireless and wired function and a link to there youtube instructional demo.

Thanks for the heads up about the battery.

I agree that shipping seemingly costs too much (is it really that expensive to ship to the states?) but this seems like a decent release. I like that it can do wired as well as wireless and its pretty cool how it can be mounted to the hotshoe. I didn't know it could do that.

p.s. here's the link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RohStRlXpFY

With any item from HK just add the two prices together and take it as a total price, it's still a bargain. There seems to be some unwritten code for HK sellers to massively up the postage but lower the item price much more.

Yes it does. I was goofing around with it last nite to make sure it was working ok and I kind of recall there being 5 dip switches on the back of the remote. I'll take a closer look when I get home from work to make sure.

Glad to hear its a keeper.

So how were you planning to setup your camera for the hill climb? Would you set it up in advance and then take shots as you and the other climbers approach your camera?

Whats the range of the transmitter? The Cleon one claims 320 ft. which sounds far to me.

Yea thats a good point. It still seems like a good deal with both those costs combined. I was expecting this release to be a bit cheaply made but after handling it for a little bit it seems nicely constructed. The feeling of the trigger feels a bit vague to me but thats probably just me being goofy. After using it a few times I'm sure it will feel better.

Does anyone use the Aputure brand wireless remote from the LinkDelight ebay reseller? People always talk about not being able to change batteries in the Phottix, the Aputure remote has replaceable batteries. Is the new Phottix Klingon model the same as the Aputure one? The website says it is a newer and smaller model as of 10/07.

it's a 2.5 mile walk up a 10% grade to where i'm going so i'll travel light :D. i plan to take a monopod and lash it to a fence post overlooking the road. i'll take the 17-40L.

the spot i'm thinking should be high enough to shoot over spectators.

As far as I can tell, Phottix has not posted any new pictures or details about it. I searched for an hour or so myself. See post #30 above though, if you order the C3 you'll get the CLEON. At least, for another day maybe.. I'd email them to verify and check.

Also, here's another thread here at POTN showing some user taken pictures:

They did not post their Cleon up yet! The only remote listed right now is the C3, but if you order that, they will send you the Cleon as a free upgrade for the next day or two. Email him directly to find out how much longer because when they do list the Cleon, it'll be twice as much.

Bottom line, if you want a cleon, order a C3 within the next day and he will send you a cleon instead. Hope this clears it up

That's the thing I did find them "description" wise. It does say C3 but I can't be sure that it's the latest version one due to the pictures which are misleading. I just don't to take a chance and that having to bite me.

I also got the new "Cleon" version without even having to ask for it. The old version for the 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 5D, etc.... is the C3 (Canon 3). The new version (Cleon) is the the C8 (Canon 8 ) and cost quite a bit more.

The Rebel series use C1 (old) C6 (new)

I just did a quick search on etefore's ebay auctions and they seem to have raised the prices for the old C3, but it's still cheaper than what he's selling the new C8 version.

I would order the C3 version and save $15.00 ($35.00 vs. $50.00). They're going to ship you the new C8 version anyway.

It does seem strange that they are selling both the C3 and C8 at the same time. Especially since there are probably no C3's left to sell.......

Maybe they just want to try and compete with the other lower cost wireless remotes.....

The plus feature would be the camera mounted wired mode, just incase certain countries don't let you use RF. Understand wired mode don't even require battery. Now if only Canon can up with items like these with a decent price!;)

Just ordered a C3...we'll see what I get. I don't get it, because they sell the C8 for $38 and the C3 for $24 (and you're saying they'll send the C8 version anyway?).

Within a day? From HK? Wow, that's impressive. Great device though eh?

Anyone have any problems getting it work on a 30D? I have it hooked up, receiver on, when I press the transmitter halfway down, I see the green light on the receiver and then the red when I press the whole way down (which I assume means it's transmitting and receiving fine).... but no shutter release! What's going on? I couldn't find any particular settings that needed to be changed.

I am using the 30D and no problems with it. Are you using wired or wireless. It seems wired up, it just snaps regardless of setting. Using the remote I could use all the modes.

Placed an order for it yesterday. Compared to european prices for similar products, $38 is still a bargain.

So far no problems with it working on my 30D. I didn't change any settings. I tried out the wired method first and then the wireless.

I'm using it wireless. I'll try to grab someone else's camera and see if it works on theirs.

I got my remote today and it was the Cleon. Only problem is that the package they sent didn't include the wireless remote. I emailed them informing them of their error. Hopefully they'll fix their mistake without requiring me to spend more money.

If you are in the states, you might want to check my thread. I have some available at prices lower than the HK seller on ebay.

I received the unit some time between Monday and today. I was away for business and my wife forgot to check the mail. Anyway, it took about a week and while I ordered the C3, I did receive the C8. Awesome!

Hi Ed,

Just got back from a Photographic Trip / Seminar to Mata Ortiz, Mexico. Astounding pottery. Used my Phottix C8 several times, and am loving the utility. Here's an example. Expect to be in SV in early April.

FInally got the wireless remote. Works good though I notice there is a bit of a lag when I use it with mirror lockup. It's not as responsive as my TC-80N3.

Bought a Cleon off TeamSpeed, got it in two days. After shipping, it was about the same as the Ebay deals. I'd say the ten less days off shipping time makes it a steal. Works great, I can't wait to use it in a real situation.

Hey, it should have been $9 cheaper and 10 days earlier! That is like getting a dollar a day in your pocket for how much faster you received it! :D

No worries, though. I would definitely recommend TeamSpeed as a seller. :)

just to be clear, the c8 is the newest version that is compatible with my 40d?

i was about to buy the c3, but then i noticed the c8 at the bottom of the page. hehe

just want to make sure before i buy it...i like to buy the "latest" models (even though it will be outdated in what...a month? hahaha)

The old version for the 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 5D, etc.... is the C3 (Canon 3). The new version (Cleon) is the the C8. (Canon 8 )

The Rebel series use C1 (old) C6 (new)

so this thread's got me a little confused here...seems people were buying the c3 older version for a cheaper price...and then getting the new cleon version instead?...they still have both versions on ebay...one is at 19 bucks...the other is at 38?...so if i go for the 19 dollar one...there may be a small chance that i get the cleon instead?...and even if i don't what am i really missing out on with the cleon? bulb mode?...i can still set the camera to bulb and use the remote to fire the shot anyways right?...thanks for any info

I believe they ran out of the old stock. I am quite sure you will receive the new one if you order the old one.

"The old generation of Phottix wireless remote is now replaced by this 2nd generation of wire/wireless remote control. We are sending the new version without any extra cost"

Order from Hong Kong Supplies http://stores.ebay.ca/Hong-Kong-Supplies

But even if you get the old one, it still has the same functions. The difference is:

1) The receiver can now be used a wired remote.
2) Bulb mode and 2 second delay can be used on either the transmitter or receiver
3) Both the transmitter and receiver are now smaller.

I am guessing that they still offer the old unit and pricing so as not to lose out on any sales to the competition. I think the Phottix unit is the best at any price.

at this point, a few extra bucks isn't going to put a dent in my wallet. especially considering my last purchase - 70-200 2.8 IS. :p

Where did it say this?

If DreDaze got a C3, they must be selling both now. I'd prefer to pay the C3 price and get a C8, but would rather get the C8.
