View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 98 -- Geometric
BLS
10th of February 2008 (Sun), 17:11
The theme for this week is "Geometric/Geometrical." Interpret this any way you like, as different and unusual interpretations are always welcome.
Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Crummy shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=51049 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51049)
That's it! Have fun!
Edit: I corrected the number in the title by making it Part 99 instead of Part 98.

Ok.. Hope I got this right since i voted for it! :) At the very least it is a repeating pattern.

A pleasing pattern in the snow.. I think I see some geometry

Looks good to me. Did you take this while snowshoeing? Hope you had a great time.
After we decided on the theme and I started thinking about it, I realized that I wasn't exactly sure what "geometric" meant. So I went first to Wikipedia, but found little help. (What I found was different from the link in your signature. And not helpful.) Then I grabbed our unabriged dictionary. (I turned to it last because it weighs a lot more than our keyboard!) It had lots to say, but I was still confused about what to shoot.:o

Here's my first attempt for this week.
Circles are geometric shapes.

I wish you could appreciate there are some laymen types here who do not understand this confusing technical jargon. ;) :p
I like your geometric shot BTW, good choice.

Hey I like that Barbara. I came away thinking that anything that repeated its' shape with a degree of mathematical consistency. Does that make sense? :)
...and yes whilst snow shoeing.

Hello, all. I used to participate in the WWPD a while back, but got out of the habit. I'd like to fix that, and I'm starting today.
I like both shots posted so far -- definitely qualify as geometric in my book.
I saw the subject of my shot a couple of weeks back, and had intended on going back with my camera at the earliest opportunity, but kept putting it off until today. Thanks for the kick in the pants. ;)
I don't do a lot of B&W shots, so I'm very open to any and all C&C.
1. Flower Boxes -- Traditional B&W

It's time to think about a new theme.
Do you have any suggestions?
Here are some to think about.
Distance
Sin
Communication
Layers
Let's hear your thoughts!

Dave -- I like both of your shots. If I had to choose just one, it would be the first one.
David -- Welcome back! I'm like Joayne; I prefer the second one. And I like its muted color.
I had some trouble with Geometric. I think it's too abstract for me. Anyway, here's one I found in a storage yard.

Well you saw the pattens ... I'd have shot the top right tubes square head on at thin DOF rather than at an angle and then cropped to get the image I wanted.
How about Communication ... should provide lots of creative options! But I am easy as usual ;-)

My second for the week..

I'll go with communication.. For some that is what photography is all about :) Any other votes for anything?
good suggestion Dave about shooting the PVC head on with narrow DOF, take it out of context..

Thanks for letting me come play again. :D
I like your second, Dave. I'm trying to do a better job of picking out details and shooting portions of larger views. Taking things out of context, like you mentioned, has shown me some interesting things.
And it's funny the discussion of head-on vs. angle. I shot the flower boxes from both perspectives. Originally, I thought I was going to like the 45 degree view better, but when I got back home and saw things off the camera, the head on view was a clear winner for me. The angle interfered with the lines of the subject.
Is part 99 (though we might have had to part 98s) going to be communication, then?

I started the new thread -- Communication.
It's here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4936999#post4936999
Yep, you're right, David.
We had two 98's. :(
So that makes "Communication" Part 100!
I thought about taking that shot of the pipes head-on, but decided against it.
Now I wish I had, just for comparing.

Joayne -- I'm surprised. Your cactus looks soft, not prickly. Like the way it shines.
And here's another shot from this week's geometric world.
And guess what -- it's head-on! ;)
