I was wondering, are there good results in getting prints developed in B&W from digital cameras

Here in the UK black and white prints tend to cost premium rates. I just bought a Canon i560 for £99 ($160). The results on my prints are faultless at 5"x7''.

As well as working out cheaper in the long run, you keep control over the creative process!
