How crappy are resin filters compared to their glass counterparts?
Is it worth the extra $?
any recommendations for the Cokin P system?

Resin filters need to be meticulously handled, and put back into their proper case immediately, not simply put into a vinyl filter wallet...surface abrasion occurs and ruins the filter if you let them rub against each other or even the filter wallet!

...and they don't take kindly to holding them up against the lens barrel without the filter holder :)

I'm thinking more in terms of image quality. Is glass heaps betters in this category?

I've had both and prefer the glass because its not as easily scratched. To be honest I've never noticed that the glass is any better IQ wise, however I'm not a pixel peeper. I think it depends on the quality of the manufacturer....I've used 4x6 Lee resin & Singh Ray glass ND grads and they both work very well. I stayed away from Cokin filters because I understand they are not truly neutral and give a colour cast to the image.

I only use Singh Rays which are resin. I'd hesitate to use a glass grad, as the rectangular ones, lacking a rigid frame, would be highly breakable.
