View Full Version : Triple Rebates Are Back - Time to Load Up!

This just in - Canon triple rebates are back, and there are a few new wrinkles. The only link I have is from a place that I would not buy from:
http://abesofmaine.com/rebates/canonslr.pdf

Adorama has a hint of them on their Web site as well. No sign of them on Canon USA's site yet (no real surprise there). I would wait a day or so for B&H etc. to get the details out to be sure.

An interesting wrinkle - several cameras, including the 20D, help you qualify for the triple rebate even if the camera itself has a $0 rebate.

So, hold off on those purchases unless you have a way to get a receipt dated after 10/15/2004.

so if you were to buy the following...

a. 17-40 F4 L ($25)
b. 70-200 F4 L ($25)
c. 85 f1.8 ($15)

you would get the following... right?
a. 75
b. 75
c. 45

$195 total rebate?

Same here, but I'm only getting one lens, so my rebate would have been much less. The good news is, I'm planning on buying more lenses in the near future... but who doesn't have those plans?

so the 20D is worth $0 no matter what?

Thats the rebate you get if you buy it... so in the 20D case, you don't get a rebate, but it counts as a purchase, so if you buy the 20D and one of the lenses listed there, you get the double rebate value of the lens, rather then the single rebate value. Or if you buy the 20D and 2 lenses, you would get the triple rebate value, rather then the double rebate value... That's my interpretation of it... if that made any sense.

Big deal. I'm still waiting and probably never will receive my Canon rebates for my two L lenses. I was even sent confirmation e-mails that my rebate was accepted. After 8 weeks I tried to contact them. Guess what no phone number. I e-mailed them. I have never heard a word from them. According to the link I was sent the rebate has been fulfilled. By who I'll never know. Just one mans experience with Canon's rebates. BTW I've sent in many rebates a was batting 100% getting my rebates back until this. 8)

Man, with those rebates on the Digital Rebel, I'll bet we're looking at a Digital Rebel II early 2005.

Question - what does U and LU mean after the lenses on the rebate checklist of lenses elligible????

hmmm i wonder if i should buy 17-40 and 400 5.6 or 400 5.6 and 100 macro or 100 macro and 17-40 or..... ;-)

FWIW, there are some differences in this round that may suggest that Canon found a new fulfillment company - a different address (AZ), a different URL to check on their progress, a way to 'pre-qualify', and different requirements for what to send in. No guarantees, but there may be hope for an improvement - God knows they couldn't do much worse than the last crowd!

The U should be an abreviation for USM, and L is pretty self explanatory.

I'm pretty sure that U stands for Ultrasonic (aka USM) and L stands for L glass. Thus LU would mean Ultrasonic L glass.

Quick Update. After ranting here I decided to try e-mailing them again. I mentioned my letting as many people as I could know about my experience with them. Guess what. I had an e-mail within an hour. My check should be here in 15 days. :D We'll see. 8)

The Canon USA Web site has been updated:
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=PromotionsAct&fcategoryid=111

I guess since it starts today they didn't want to post it in advance.

I'm assuming these rebates only apply to the USA?

CoolToolGuy

The rebates are from Canon USA, and they must be USA versions with the USA warranty card. But I don't know if you must have a USA address. You might want to go read the fine print on the rebate form on the Canon USA site.

I saw a thread on Fred Miranda about Canadian rebates, but I didn't read it. Check there and see what it says.

If nothing else, maybe you can hook up with a USA member of this forum that is not getting any rebates and do a shadow purchase.

Have Fun,
