Just wondering if anyone has experience getting 35mm slides transfered to digital through a service such as www.digmypics.com (http://www.digmypics.com). I know I could purchase a scanner and do it myself...but the truth is I don't have that many slides plus I don't want to deal with the hassle. If you have experience with a company please let me know--good or bad. Also, $0.50 (USD) seems to be the going rate...is this a good deal? Thanks in advance for your advice. :)

I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I use a Epson 4490 for scanning old photos and it does a decent job. But I haven't been real happy with scanning slides / negatives and it takes way too long. Here is a service that I am considering : http://www.scancafe.com/works.php. I don't know anyone who has used them but the price looks very reasonable. I admit to being a little nervous about shipping my slides/negatives to India but I will probably try a trial run.

Thanks, Calhoun! By the way, welcome to POTN!!;)
Yes, it is hard to know what to do. Certainly ScanCafe.com has some very favorable pricing. When I go to digmypics.com, however, they have a section on their web site that is not very favorable toward ScanCafe.com (click here (http://www.digmypics.com/GetTheRealTruth.asp?adid=india&gclid=CKj_zov8vJECFQUsPAodNwI2Cg)). Not sure if this is some sort of sour grapes or just part of the ruthless competition going on in this industry. Yet, when I check out an article in CNNMoney.com they give ScanCafe.com an A- and rate Digmypics.com a lousy C. And this article (http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/moneymag/0712/gallery.digitize_memories.moneymag/index.html) was posted in Dec. '07.
Anyone else here in the forum with experiences on this contract slide scanning topic?

Depending on how many you have to do you might be better off just buying a slide scanner and doing it yourself. You could probably get one for around $250.
