lol - no pressure.. i can honestly say without looking that i doubt i have anything worth posting.. we had a few things against us....

1. weather - poured with rain.... no outside shots at all... formals had to be done inside the tiny church..
2. the tiny church - then the priest said no to someone being behind him allow us to shoot the the B&G faces. (they stood with their backs to us most of the shoot.
3. The brides house is still a build site. and the room she got ready in had building gear everywhere. (great for backgrounds)
4. the reception was in a tent in a field. and they had not set the places so no table shots.
5. None of the grooms family wanted their photo taken at all. (when told they had too they just looked like someone had smacked them with a wet fish..)
6. Lack of practice and preparation. (due to the above factors)...

Backup :p

Just in case some poor bastard decides to come in and steal your camera/bag, or you head out on a shoot with full cards still

Yep i should back up but to be honest i don't think there is anything worth backing up.. ;). On to it now backing up...

before the family (grooms side) bugga off back to england i am going over to shoot some informal portraits for them with the sun out and no rain... Just so they have some shots to remember the trip by..

I am even considering asking the the B&G to get dressed up again in couple of weeks when everything has settled down to get some shots of them.. a bit of mock stuff.

Ouch mate. Was that a first (sorry haven't been able to keep up with this thread since travelling)

But all those factors combined, make a nerve racking wedding to shoot!

Mine was bad enough with the heat, harsh lighting, and unwillingness of family wanting pics, and my suggestion of a nice location by a cute bridge, and LOTS of flowers and greenery as a backdrop in the shade... They said they didn't want pics there. Instead a rather dull green sloping backdrop with a few small flowers which won't show up well in the pics. Ah well. I tried.

That's not a bad idea at all... Because they're family I guess its easily achieved :)

I think given the circumstances, anyone that had even been doing it for years would have struggled.. Probably the worst one as a start heh . I know when I've had weddings where I know the photos arent that great and the bride and groom weren't into it - I find it hard to get into it myself.. and the post processing seems to take ages :/

Ever think you only hear and remember the bad stuff..? :)

Not every wedding is going to be perfect. More often than not they are in less than desirable locations. It is up to you as a photographer to sell the bride and groom on a photo location so as to produce the shots you know you are capable of. They often put their trust in you to make suggestions. Remember that they havent done it before but you as a photographer probably has.

The majority of ours have been a pleasure to shoot and a lot of fun. Topped up when you get emails from the parents of the bride/groom thanking you for the fantastic photos :)

I could be interested, but dont have the cash straight out - would you consider installments?... let me know as a last resort if you have trouble selling it.

Yeah fully agreed.

The best weddings are ones where we're blessed with perfect weather, good backgrounds and very enthusiastic people.
One of those weddings forms my favourite, www.warrenwilliams.co.nz/weddings/london

Would love to catch up, and give back some inspiration.. Or do you want some competition again. I Know it's been a bad week for you, and I can't think of any other way to fix that.
For me that would be getting out and doing something I love - photography.
I purposely put my camera down for 5 weeks before travelling (except one morning in Hastings sunrise in UK), just to get back my enthusiasm into getting some good shots.

Meh... I have 45 photos loading up onto my flickr from the photoshoot. Is that excessive? im worried that my contacts will be pissed off, seeing all these photos loaded up by matt wong once again! I just want all of my friends to see the set.

I always do mammoth sets. I really shouldn't be asking here. You guys hate it. But I need to get this off my back. For a job there is a first interview. Then you get invited to a second interview meet your boss...

Do a psychometric test. Then they check references (today) and say they will be contacting me today. Does that mean I have got the job?
At the second interview they were saying:

"this is **** you are going to be in his team"

"there are actually two people that are doing this job, you and another person, you will be in his team, the other person will be in the other"...

Sorry to bring this up! i tried so hard not to. But you people have been through all this stuff before.

She based it on more than just the actual written test. It starts from the minute you walk in the door. It was my appearance (I had a flowey skirt with strategically places extra bits on it), and from that she decided I was very creative. The way I spoke directly to her eyes and what I said, not looking all over the place, how I carried myself, and held my hands.. you'd be surprised what they are watching. In my case, I did the right things in that testing to the decision maker, so I knew within 30mins of leaving that I had the job.

Good luck though, Matt :)

After the first moment (and I'm talking within a few seconds here) there's maybe been one or two interviews where I've swayed toward a candidate after my initial snap judgment, but plenty where I've been swayed away... And I've got 100+ CVs sitting on my desk that I need to go through in the next couple of days... Ugh.

Good luck though, Matt :)

And yes, good luck!

Because on flickr when you load up photos it shows up on the "home" section. You know. "photos from your contacts". And that will be overloaded by my new uploads. Hence too much spam.

I need to find a community like this one (GKPE) except on flickr - the flickr environment is well suited for discussing/commenting on photos...

I'm thinking a West coast beach for sunset, probably Karekare? As I'll be at Piha on Wednesday

And once sunset finishes at 8:15pm (and long low light exposures by 8:40pm), then go and drive into the city arriving around 9:20pm, and do some nightscapes with Mathew Wong - and hopefully Tony can at least make that for an hour or two.

Man in a dress!! It's a woman.

Actually seems to be causing some confusion as she has quite a high forehead, and has her hair tied back.

Hah - I don't post that often, so that must be saying something.

Great collaboration of photos, Peter :)

I am confused by the sex of the subject though.. Built like a woman, but a young mannish type face?

Excellent, thanks for that, kind of scary at the same time. Because they do watch every single thing I do, including what I do with my hands. Im going to man up tomorrow and call up the boss, he gave me his business card. And just ask how things are going and where im at with the job process at the moment.

Then say that im keen and tell them my Telstraclear job needs 5 days notice. Im sure he will appreciate me calling. As you said, investing interest in the job is a goody.

I am soooo jealous.

I would just LOVE to do a studio session with any of those guys. Their ostumes are so bazar & colourfull. Mann My mind is going into overdrive as to what setups you could use.

Cool pictures by the way.

Nos sure I like the shadow on the wall behind them. maybe would have been better if they where a bit further from the wall, but still a great set of pictures.

Yeah - I like the composition, too. It's a lot different to the norm in some ways, which makes it stand out :)

Dang, it feels like someone kidney punched my in my sleep.
Any movement in my lower back is killing me.

Anyone got any clues what it might be? May be just a strained muscle from sleeping odd?

Its a sign that you need to create a wonderful set on your camera. Set out my young padawan.

(I have to sell 60,000 bricks a week, anyone want any to help my cause? :p)

On a plus, I may be photographing boats!
A proposal is being put forward to boat painters... web services by a friend and offering my photography services. Shooting them on (in motion) and off water.

I like boats ;)

Always carrying heavy stuff (Bricks), so either it was an odd way I carried stuff on Sunday, or infection. I hope not #2. It's sore :(

Oh. like my new sig?
Me and stairs never got on well - hence my old slinky quote, now I've come to the conclusion why

Hey lil_miss, I think I have asked this before but have a memory like a siv (at least i think i do... can't remember)

Annnnyway, just admiring your baby shoot pics and the pure white/black backgrounds. How did you achieve this as I read that 1 shoot was at a private residence. Do you have large backdrop and stands you lag around or is there some magical trick of the trade?

Thanks :)

BTW... REALLY love those shots :)

$1? Wow, that's expensive for a brick!
Our Base bricks (From Queensland plant) are $0.69 retail/each and our South Australia ones (like the Fremantle Range) are $0.85
Even that is expensive when you consider what national housing companies can get them from us for

Speaking of bricks, if anyone wants any free ones, I'm digging some up from the edging around our garden.
They've been there about 20 years, but will clean up well.
