I dig that, I like the darker side of things. Did you do any face shots, you know, some moody anger type thingies?

Cliff

Haha, no but we have another shoot planned, very dark theme, need to wait a few weeks for props though :)

This one today was a spare of the moment thing, we were up the hills, saw the building and I put the shot to him, I took like 4 shots and then he got al paranoid as it was a pretty public place LOL

I was pretty rapt with how it came out for a rushed unplanned idea.

If you PM CDS he can let you in early.
I think that shot more than qualifies.

Sorry, you have me totally lost, qualifies for what? Please expalin, sounds interesting ...

That is pretty damn cool.
I love the location, and the lighting is cool.

Need to do a bit more with the pose or add to the mood.

Chain him to the wall.
Sit him in the corner or something.
I also find it difficult to come up with ideas in situations like that.
Basically a lot of it comed from the model.

Haha, yeah as I mentioned it was a spare of the moment thing, the next shoot we have planned should be interesting though :)

Phew, I am back from a GREAT week in Omarama, Twizel and Lake Ruataniwha with secondary schools rowing. The weather was generally fantastic, a couple of light frosts, loads of sun and few clouds to create a bit of mood.

Took 860 photographs, you can see the best 160 at Flickr. I think this one though is the one I like the best:

Actually, on that note. I shot at Central Shooters club in the city last Thursday. This time without a gun rest (so just holding, but crouched down). My grouping was great. I put 15 rounds into the space of about a circle the size of 4cm diameter. Oh and this was at 5 metres longer range too.

So maybe it is I who will shoot you! :D

There were some dudes in there with 9mm hand guns - jesus those things frightened the crap out of me. Some serious power - even though all the gun heads were saying "yeah they're ONLY 9mm"

Watch your back from Manipula. He hates the saying 'pulled the trigger' but this time you actually did, pull the trigger.

hmm Tom two ways to look at this ....

first is the fact that i am English and speak the English that i as taught during my public school upbringing. where as you have US English, which to be honest is a bastardized version of English. Thus this gives me the moral high ground on my choice of English. Just because a word mean something else in your part of the world does mean it translates the same else where..

the second point of view is that you are a moderator within this forum and this gives you a higher power than i can claim, therefore this allows you to interpret the rules of the forum.

So with that in mind i believe that your royal flush beats my full house, so i will refrain from using that adjective to describe Matt.

Therefore i have given this some thought and would to use another adjective to describe him. so if it is acceptable can i use the word 'tosser' to describe my feeling toward that member that has caused no end of trouble within the GKPE forum and has lead to a number of well respect members to leave the forum. Whilst i know that i am not completely innocent here and the one with sin should not be casting the first stone, i feel a stand needs to be made.

We don't need adjectives to describe any member. If you have a problem, ignore him, but don't start looking for the most offensive word you can slip by with. Sooner or later you're going to cross the line.

This has historically been one of the friendlier threads on the forum. I don't know why you guys are getting so testy all of a sudden, but it's unbecoming and I'd really like it to stop. Please go back to your friendly former selves.

do you guys always frame your shots, like what you see in the viewfinder before you shoot is what you get as your end image? <---- hope that makes sense?

Or

do you always leave room in the pictre for some flexibility in cropping later?

for some funny reason I have a feeling am making a mistake framing my shots almost all of the time :P I have always been told to frame my shots.

I can somehow now see what advantages there are in to leaving room for cropping your shot later to your desired composition.

i believe the compose your shot and frame it how you wish it to be seen within the camera is the best way.. this will lead you to be a more accomplished photog.

however sometimes it is good to leave a little room for error.

there are of course times where it is important to leave space - like when shooting panos.. you need a good overlap of the frames to allow stitching of the frames together...

While I do agree with you here - it has also gone back the other way as well - its been a 2 way street... so the "vulnerable" are not necessarily blameless...

Others need to remember that it is the internet and people shouldnt get so consumed in it... should most of the ppl here get together in real life - I'm sure it would be completely different.

Have you guys come accross problems when printing your pictures? I mean if you want anything bigger other than the standard 4X6? I come accross problems where it will crop my original picture, therefore losing my composition & framing.

You need ot make sure you select the same ratio..

eg.... 8x10 is not the same as 6x4... you would need 8x12 instead to avoid croppping edges off... same with 6x8 - its would crop.. correct size would be 6x9 etc :)

Have a look here : http://www.frogprints.co.nz/help/cropping.cfm

Look, let me be as clear as I can on this.

I have the highest regard for everyone in this thread.

Everyone.

If I didn't, I would handle this very differently, and some of you would be decidedly unhappy right now. I'm only suggesting that you all do your best to make every member who passes through or hangs out here feel welcome and equal. Mocking and/or ridiculing someone is not the way to do that. If you can't read back through the last few days and figure out who I'm talking about, let me know and I will explain it, in sign language if necessary.

While I'm at it, let me remind you that while this thread is populated by a relatively small number of people in terms of the forum's overall numbers, you are still bound by forum rules, even those pertaining to foul language. While we try to make allowances for regional idioms, I think some of you have really been pressing your luck lately. Don't do it. If you can't communicate without vulgarities, you have serious problems, and should probably be posting in a game forum. They like that sort of thing.

Moving on....

If you mean the nude guy photo, then I quite liked it. Certainly got a lot of punch to it, and an impact which I think a lot of good portraiture does. Personally (and I know this may sound hypocrytical seeing as I do it myself a lot) I found I couldn't connect to him that last 20% seeing as his face was closed off. I also recognise that it kinda goes with the feel of the shot too so...

I almost always show my work full frame and very rarely crop. Henri Cartier Bresson made this approach seem a bit 'ooh get me, aren't I cool' by exhibiting and framing/publishing his photos like that in all bar one shot I think. The fact he went on and on about it, slightly putting down those that cropped in my eyes makes the 'I don't crop' thing seem a bit sheep following the herd to be cool, but despite that I think it's something I prefer to stand by. Forces you to get good at composing, especially with people say where you're moving around a lot, and IQ is better too.

YEEEHAAAAA

work has put me on 3 x 10 hours days, 4 day weekends EVERY weekend LOL this job is going to be sooo hard to leave :)

Repeat after me: "I am a ****."

You need ot make sure you select the same ratio..

eg.... 8x10 is not the same as 6x4... you would need 8x12 instead to avoid croppping edges off... same with 6x8 - its would crop.. correct size would be 6x9 etc :)

Really good point! ^^^ :D

Remember also that with commercial printers, all commercial printers I've ever seen, even if you pick the right aspect ratio for your print in relation to the camera, they will crop some of the image off anyway. When I used to work in the camera store, only way I could get a decent full frame print was to set up a custom page size on the minilab for every shot. Takes aaages. :?

Guys who print using high end inkjet, gyclee or dye-sub printers may be able to print full image much more easily for what it's worth.

<Rubs bleery eyes>

I hadn't realised how hard I was pushing myself last night, I proper sparked out as soon as I looked at the bed, and waking up just now feels like I've had two hours sleep, not nine. :?

Moderators are your friends. Friendship has its limits, though.

fair points...

now as we are all here would this not be a good time to start the new thread as we are nearing our 10k limit and a new home, new start thing could happen and also be what we all need....

with us all leaveing out egos at the door...
