Rob Galbraith has posted some CF performance numbers on the 20D, and the Sandisks absolutely destroyed everything else he has tested so far, topping the 5MB/sec mark. That is actually 50% faster than the same cards in the 1D Mk II. Now I can see why I am able to shoot 40 JPEGs in about 8 seconds and have the buffer emptied 9 seconds later. The 20D is still no Mk II, but at least we can see the performance is quickly becoming a non issue with the right card.

If you have a 20D and are thinking about getting one of the Lexar's because of the rebates, I'd check out these performance numbers first. It seems obvious now that Lexar is trying to blow out their old inventory before they release the 2nd edition.

I agree with that... I have a 1Gb Ultra2 40x and a Sandisk Extreme, and the SanDisk extreme is definitely faster, although I haven't noticed it THAT much. If I can get 35 shots on one and 38 on another, and I never need more than 10 shots at a time, it doesn't really matter.

Good to know though!

67-70 pictures in 8 seconds on a 20D? That's just not possible. That's Mk II speed. It sounds like you are not actually filling the buffer to me, maybe shooting small-fine JPEG?

Rob Galbraith has the Simpletech Pro X cards down near the bottom, at less than half the speed of the Sandisk Ultra II and Extremes.

I understand, at a max 5 fps, 8 seconds would only yeild 40. I am getting nearly double that, whaich is puzzling...Dean

I bought the Sandisk Ultra II for the 10D based on Rob Galbraith's work, and am happy to see that what I have seen with the 20D is confirmed. The camera is lightning fast with the Ultra II, as far as I am concerned. I couldn't ask for anything more.
