I am trying to get more band shots so volunteered to shoot a band. It's going to be at the Grog & Tankard in DC http://www.grogandtankard.comand looks typically dark. In addition to whatever light the venue has the band will be using 3 http://www.chauvetlighting.com/colortubes.html

I have 40d and 50 1.4 and 85 1.8. on cam flash(doubt I can/should use it) and off cam flash/lights

Any advice would be most welcome especially on dealing with the chauvet lights.

i would bet money you'd do just fine with the 50mm 1.4

It says the color tubes are for accent and mood lighting, so I wouldn't guess that they will affect your overall exposure too much...assuming the venue has reasonable stage lighting. Just expose for the performers faces in Av of M as you normally would. If the venue is big on really trippy colors, you'll want to be particularly mindful of blown color channels.
