I recently bought the Epson R300. Its essentially the same printer but with an LCD screen. I liked the pictures that it printed. The only thing I have a problem with is that the ink doesnt last long. It takes 4 cartridges. I did find the ink cartridges pretty reasonable at Office Max. I would recommend either printers. Check out newegg.com, thats where I got mine from and it was pretty cheap there.

Hi Mc_Fly,
Thanks for Info. Actually I have a EPSON Photo 820 printer which WAS awesome. I messed up using cheap non OEM ink. Now I don't want to put new OEM Ink set (costs $42.00) as I am not sure what the printer will give me.
Instead, in local Fry's EPSON-R200 was on sale for $80.00. I got that one,
and the inks that come with the priner (1 black + 5 colors) worth $85 (at officemax price).
Thanks

My 5 cents worth, I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1290, and I hardly use it at all, and consider it a waste of money. Sure it does do good prints, but they fade, and cost heaps to print in consumables (paper and ink). The one thing I get out of it is convenience, if I want a print now, I can have it nearly now (assuming the heads haven’t dried/clogged up).
What I find as a better option for myself, is to send the images to a Internet Photo Bureau (in New Zealand I use Frog Prints, tried DigiMax, but their quality is too inconsistent and is mostly pretty bad). The images cost me less than it would to do it myself, don’t fade, and I don’t have to waste my time calibrating etc, the only catch is I have to wait 1 – 2 days for them to arrive after I have uploaded them.

'We' just upgraded to an Epson R-300... it does things we will never use, but the one reason 'She' wanted it for was the 'New' ink. Ours has six ink cartridges of ink that IS water-proof. I tested it.... In the set-up and learning process of having both an R-300 and a 860 hooked up and selectable, I printed several small images. When I was done I (ahem) spit on my finger and rubbed, hard...on each image. The ink from the Old 860 smeared badly, as expected. The ink from the R-300 DID NOT. The paper got wet, but the ink held! Epson says it will last SEVENTY (70) years. I wont be around to tell, that's for sure. The R-300 is quieter than the 860, but seems a tad slower.
Anyway, that's my Two-Bits worth of Experience...

The one thing I DID notice about the R300 was that it was slow as well. When I sent something to print on my older HP 930C it started printing immediately. It takes a while for the Epson to start printing. But the pictures that it prints is much much better than the HP.

How about the HP 7960? Makes tremendous color and b/w prints. You should be able to find one *cheap* as they are now discontinued.

What about the INK ? **THAT** is the only reason 'we' bought the R-300 in the first place! She can print up a Post Card, drop it in the box and not worry about it getting wet...and address smeared off! Otherwise, we were very happy with our ....basic?.... Epson 860......
