I have a rebel which I love but want to get rid of because it's too troublesome to carry.. Is the G6 much smaller and will it fit in a male's pants pocket ?

I've seen G2 (same size?) being taken out of a pocket of male's pants once. I cannot say though that it will fit nicely into any pants. Semi-tight jeans are of the question. Maybe you need to find yourself something smaller.

I doubt that 5MPs will give you anything appropriate in this size. Anyway, try looking http://www.dpreview.com . Canon cameras are here (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/).

Well my Rebel's buyer is overnighting the payment right now. So hopefully tomorrow I can order my Powershot G6. I'm gonna miss that Rebel, but she barely got any use, way too large. =[ Besides, I can't afford lenses, not even cheapos lol

You might consider the Powershot S500 (5MP), the S60 (5MP), or the S60's successor, the S70 (7MP). The S500 is the smallest, and it will fit in your pocket. The other two are slightly larger, but have more brains in them and allow for things like shooting RAW.

No it wont unless you have very large pockets and you wear braces to keep them up due to the weight

Any other smaller great cams? I really want one that uses the same battery as the G6 and Rebel since I already have a few.

neither are comfortable in pants pockets, unless you wear baggy pants or cargo pants. I carry the S500 on my belt almost every day (great for capturing whiteboard notes after meetings, instead of copying stuff down), in a small leather pouch. I carry the S70, also on my belt, when I'm not at work, and want more capability.
Good luck with your search.

Most likely will still get the G6.. I can hold it still most likely, probably no where the weight of the Rebel + lens

The G6 is much smaller than a Rebel, but I would drop the idea of putting any camera in your pocket. Go to a camera store and look at the various camera bags that are designed to put on your belt. Find one that's just big enough for the G6 and you're all set!

It sounds like you're already looking seriously at the G6, so maybe I'm preaching to the choir, but it's possible to go too small. Hit a big electronics store and see how they fit in your hand (with the security wires on them, you probably can't test your pocket :) )
Some small camera bags have both a shoulder strap and a belt strap, so you can use them either way.
I'd think that after using the DRebel, you'd be disappointed in the features of most cameras significantly smaller than the G.

Well the rebel was a dumb purchase on my part. I couldn't get more then the kit lens and the cheap 75-300. I also RARELY used it since it's way to large to lug around with friends. I ended up using my powershot a70 alot more.. I just sold the Rebel and am waiting for paypal to deposit the money into my account.. Then its off to beachcamera to order the g6 <3

well you know the digital rebel is not exactly a dumb purchase, but rather it caters to a different type of use. I consider the G series along with otheer point and shoots and nice carry around cameras, where as the digital SLRs are for types of photo requiring vary focal length lenses, faster shutter response, but definitely not light to carry everywhere..
I would love a G series camera to be thinner and have a good focal length zoom say 20mm to 300mm if such a lens existed.. would be perfect carry all camera..

That's what I was after as well. I ended up with an S70. Yeah, I wish it had more lens, but I understand the physics of the situation. What I really wish it had is a hot shoe.
Even so, I believe the S70 is the optimal feature vs. portability compromise for me.

I wouldn't put any camera in my pants pocket. All you'd have to do is bang into a table or something, and you know you will if your camera is in the pocket, and you can bet the camera will get damaged. What's wrong with a small carrying case just big enough to carry the camera and CF card, with a wide strap you can wear over your shoulder. I wear mine over my head on the opposite shoulder so it can't slide off. All I have to do is open the flap, pull out the camera and shoot.

An unprotected G in your pocket is certainly inviting damage, but I'm not happy with a shoulder bag either. My bag is just large enough for the camera, but it seems like a constant annoyance--it tends to rest right on my hip, which is in the way of my swinging arms when I walk. I can try to bias it to the front or back, but it always slides back, and even before then, it bounces around, distracting me from what I really want to be doing. Ironically, I think because it is so small, the case doesn't rest against my body, it just rolls around. something wider than it is thick would probably stay put more easilly.
Have you considered either a small satchel or a fanny pack?
Check http://www.holsterguy.com/ for some alternatives, including shoulder holsters, and belt-loop holsters (the ones for larger radios may fit the G).
There's also the bat utility belt route:

But maybe not a good option for the shy :)

Well it fits fine with the lens cap on if you aren't one of those people who wear butt tight jeans. In other news I returned mine so it's not a problem either way anymore. :D

I was aware, yes--and while composing the message I'd thought of excusing myself for the term, but it got lost in process. However, I'd also hope folks would exercise some tolerance for regional slang terms that are in mundane usage in other portions of the world, especially in context. For example, if a British poster were to comment that he was getting a good screw at his new job, and was going to get pissed in celebration of the new salary, I hope I'd take the contextual clues into account and not take offense at either of those terms. :)

If you're in the UK, I certainly hope you hide it!!! ;) Nothing personal, you understand, but good fences make good neighbors and all that. :)

Monte Python said fanny. Oh, the guy who started this took his camera back. No need to continue the bag discussion.

I'm not in the UK I'm on Camera Forum on the internet (No walls or fences) and fanny pack the word is a topic about equipment not an
insult. I not hiding my fanny, fannypack or my talk about it anywhere.

Here in the US we say fanny to be discreet, rather than say ass or dumper.
