Anyone willing to share their favorite locations for scenic photography in Northern California? I guess I'll also want to know places up near Oregon for late November :)

I'll be spending some time in the Mt. Shasta area... can you recommend any specific locations? I'll be spending most of my time during that trip just north of it... The one shot I have on my site is from Weed about a mile off the freeway (I forget what exit) :)
Are you familiar w/ the Klamath River or Klamath Natl. Forest areas?

Well, the Mount Shasta volcano is pretty impressive if you stay away from it by 20-40 miles. Yes, there is a rest area north of Weed beside I-5, and it is a good scene to shoot. By this late in the season, there may be some new snow on the dark lava rock.

Virtually any place from the northwest to the southwest works good during the afternoon or early evening (to get the sun right). Southwest of the peak, near Dunsmuir, there is a lower peak named Mount Bradley, and it has a fire lookout tower on its summit, so it has a commanding view of the southwest faces of Shasta.

I have some good shots that I got in the same area, but I was up high climbing the mountain just before and during sunrise. From about 12,000 feet, you get the triangular shadow of the volcano that is cast to the west.

In southern Oregon, Crater Lake is good. Take a very wide angle lens. No, wider than that.

Not far from the town of Mt Shasta is Castle Lake. Pristene water and great views of the mountains. Also check out Castle Crags (I think that's what they're called).

In Oregon - Heceta Point Lighthouse, Cannon Beach, Ecola Point, the Columbia River Gorge, and Silver Falls State Park. All are lovely in the fall as well as in the spring and summer.

Ohhh... I forgot about Castle Craggs... we tried getting some shots w/out taking too much time to explore on a return trip last time we were up in that area... Thanks for reminding me... I'll definitely keep that in mind! ...of course, they are hard to miss while driving up I-5 ;)
