Very cool, I like it, I just wish I could see the whole flame. Good work.

I'm going to have to try this myself :)

Cool image! As the previous poster says, do you have anymore with more of the flame?
This is ripe to sell as stock photography, have you tried?

That's pretty smart, careful you don't get any residue land on you lens;)

Stunning to say the least! An excellent macro shot and I agree with the stock photography tip!

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!
The image is partial crop as I wanted to see the match in details.
I did not even think about selling this but as some of you suggested,
I have to give it a go.

Attic:
Im not really concerned on getting some residue on lens as the lens is almost
6 inches away from match and I have UV filter attached :)

Here is the full frame. The flame looks like butterfly. Thats the cool part as every pic looks different

They are both great shots.
I like the first one as is, really like the detail in the match head.

hm, how are you lighting it, and not getting your hand / lighter / other match in the shot? Just really quick, or a technique I'm not thinking of?

The setup is pretty simple. The match is fixed on small vice. Flash is there to provide some fill for the match. On background you can have anything dark. It does not have to bee totally black as the shutter speed is so fast so background will remain black. Then I just use matchbox side to light the match. Match head will burn fairly slow so you have good time to check burning progress and when just over half of it is burnt, take the pic. At this point your hands will be far away so you dont have to care about getting them in the pic. Too bad I dont have another body to take the setup pic.
I hope this gives you some idea how to do it :)

Nice! thanks for sharing the setup. I guess i when I burn matches to light a candle it seems a lot faster because I need it to stay lit longer.
Thanks again, and great pic.
