Well I finally got a chance to go back and shoot at the Murray gym. The first time my images were really really not suitable as the orange on the court hurt me. This time I think I did a little better. I shot Raw this time around and I am currently on a trial for Aperture 2.0. I wanted to give it a wirl and see how it handled.
Anyways just another awesome game that came down to the final minute and a half. The game featured two of the top scorers in the state of Utah and it was a barn burner.
Enjoy the Images:

bounced B800's.
Yeah there was a nice walk area that went all the way around the court. The court was down below ground level. This was by the hardest gym to shoot for me. Know matter what I did the light fell off really really fast and was really really bright towards the basket.

So I'm trying to get at least one pic of each award winner on my team - cuz instead of trophies they're getting a collage of photos thing instead. I shot ambient tonight, and wonder how strange it would look with a coach using strobes :)
Have 'em up at full power, the 800's? Thinking of takin one 1600 instead of two, since I only need 4 photos from the game.

i would always use two to balance the light otherwise you will get one side being way bright and the other dark, like this:

I say you bring both 800's put them at both corners/same side of the gym and shoot away.

Yes, but I'm COACHING the game - set up time is warmup time. I can't go in and do test shots and play around, we get off the bus and hit the line to do dynamic stretching and then tip off after I hand in the rosters, have the coaches meeting, etc. It's only 15 mins at most though sometimes cut to 10 or less depending on how much a jerk the official is (rules state we get 15 mins, sometimes they will try to force us off the court because they don't want to be there long). If there was a problem with one strobe I could adjust, with two I couldn't get to the other side of the gym to adjust it. I'd much rather use two for sure, just dont know it's feasible....I set up two at home games but then the game was so close I didn't shoot at all. Two games in a row did that, had both set up ready to go and never used them as we pulled them out in the end VERY close. :)
I'd much rather have the above result than just ambient which I shot today at 3200 ISO - 1/320 - 2.8! The last pic you posted I could use for what I'm doing - which is cutting the player out from the background for an award. Don't want to even show you the results, it might make you sick to your stomach with all the noise, ha.

lol sorry I guess I missed the part that said you were coaching :)
Yeah go with one 1600 then and you will be fine or good enough :)

You don't know how much it burns me to say "good enough"...makes me get goosebumps and quiver at the thought, ha. But after seeing the results from tonight that made me vomit a little, I'll take good enough, :) After all, if I leave with 4 good shots for the award then it's a success.
