Any Noise Ninja tips?

I just got it, the other night, and were wondering what settings yall typically used to keep the face from looking fake or plasticy, and such.

Also any tips would be appreciated.

I already loaded the profiles for my cameras.

Also, I'm shooting in Jpeg., and I have the sharpening set to zero, already.

Thanks in advance.

Use masks to apply different amounts of noise reduction to different parts of the picture. Shadow areas in your background for instance you might want to totally nuke with noise reduction. whereas in your subject you would be more picky about detail loss. You can use the "noise brush" in NN or just do the layer masks in Photoshop (latter is easier to me). I would not use any noise reduction on faces unless it's really awful noise or you're trying to smooth skin out on purpose. The only sliders in NN I usually touch are the luminance strength and USM on the left.

Download and install the profiles for your camera. That is the best place to start. Noise Ninja will read the EXIF info, get the camera and ISO settings, and use the associated profile.

Thanks. I already downloaded and installed profiles for both cameras. Played a tiny bit with a few sample photos, but I don't have any saved ones that were really bad. I hope to get some shooting in this weekend, though.

I usually use NN on a copy layer & then paint in the NR with a Layer Mask: Post #9:
