strange how some aphids end up all alone.

Funny you should say that- just noticed a pair of aphid legs on the LHS :). As Ususal I didn't even notice the aphid till the pic was on the PC.

nice shots, the second one is weird to me. the face is all blurry but the eyes edges are sharp. is it a stack?

Nice shots Brian, I saw my first Episyrphus balteatus couldn't get near with the camera though it was far to skittish :(

I would say 'yes', Brian is the stack master, he stacks everything! =)
I don't think it looks weird though, just because the focus is on the eyes and those are slightly above the head.

Thanks for the comments :)
Jay - you are right the focus point is just behind the eyes on this shot and no it's not stacked - thought it worth showing just because of the aphid.
Alby Only seen one or two Episyrphus balteatus so far like this one - do wonder if this one is egg laying - they actively search for aphid colonies to lay and egg or two near.
Lowcrust - not stacked (otherwise the eyes would have been in focus :) )- only got one shot of this.

Hiya Brian,
Great shots, #2 is my favorite, still not seeing much about here which I find most strange as it's been so damned mild, got loadsa Spawn in my pond that's been there since mid Jan. which is the earliest I've ever had it here.
Cheers for now
