View Full Version : Posting your location in 'Profile.'

It's been fun reading everyone's posts in the thread that asks, Where is everyone from? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=45097&start=30) I noticed that a lot of people who answered still don't have their location posted in their profile. I thought this was a curious fact.

Occasionally it's helpful to know where a person comes from, especially when discussing things like local dealers, shooting locations, laws, weather, or anything that's tied to specific cities/regions/countries.

If you don't want to be precise about your hometown, you can give a general answer. Of course, you don't have to list it at all; some folks like their privacy, and that's okay, too.

To enter (or change) your location in your profile, just click the 'profile' link at the top of the page. enter the information in Location box, press 'Submit,' and you're done. It's that easy.

:D I wish everyone would list where they are from. Its interesting to know where people are when you establish the long distance relationship that we all do on this forum.

I'm overwhelmed that so many countries are represented on this forum and enjoy knowing that I am talking to someone in Finland or Germany or Australia or England or anywhere in the US. I think it adds to the mystique of the forum and the enjoyment of it all.

Belmondo, you make an excellent point about local information availability and I'd like to add, local friendships as well. :D

One of the things I like about this forum is that it's not dominated by one country/region/location. It's well balanced in that regard.

You haven't been paying attention. Have you ever seen so many Canadians in one place before?

Let me tell you all a story:

Months ago, many of us were on a waiting list for the 1D Mk II. One day, I received an unsolicited email from one of the forum members who just happened to know I was in Southern California and was on a waiting list for the Mk II. He had discovered a dealer in Los Angeles who had a couple to sell, so he sent me the name of the individual to conact. By the end of the day, I had my Mk II in my hands.

I doubt he would have sent that message if he hadn't known I was reasonably close.

Timmyquest: I know you're from Chicago. I've been there and have seen your photo on the Post Ofice wall.

Ok my geography is not real good, just where is the middle of the California desert    ( I didn't even know California had a desert :? )

All joking aside I would love to see a location for everyone. I see pic's of things I never saw before and many times I wonder just where in the heck did that come from :?

Just my thoughts

Yep.. I've been trying to turn him in for the reward but he's a sneaky one.

Could you find him if the reward was for a larger amount?

I hereby donate $10 to the Timmyquest Post Office Photo Fund.

Any other takers?

Did the portrait have good lighting ratios with flash, or was it with available light?

Am i an eligible winner?

Hmmm... The rules don't state anything about eligibility, so I guess you would be the winner once you document and prove your own extradition to Tibet.

Hmmm, wouldn't this be a little like the sting where the cops send notices to all the folks that they want to round up that they have won Super Bowl (or whatever) tickets and all they have to do is show up at the venue and provide their identity at the 'special' ticket window?

So, yeah, timmy you are a winner!

Have Fun,

The lighting wasn't all that special, but the numbers showed up real good.

(As a side issue) Wouldn't you hate to be a police photographer of mug shots?

I get it, but I've never been to a Tim Horton's. I expect to resolve that before the end of the year. Actually, they do have locations in the US, mainly in the east where I plan to be in a few weeks. I'm making it a point to get to one of them just to see what the fuss is about. Personally, I'm a Peets kind of guy. (Starbucks, in a pinch.)

If you're passing through Tennessee, drop me a message. I don't know if we have a Tim Horton's or Starbuck's in town, but Mr. Coffee is always ready. :)
