Bonjour,

I have been using my Canon G3 for over a year now without any troubles
under XP until lately...

Then one day, I could no longer connect to my PC - it would no longer
see my G3. At first I thought it was because of my dog who dropped my
camera to the floor.

The day I brought my camera to work to send it for repair I had a
flash on the way. The last time I had actually plugged a camera to my
PC was my Mom's Sony CyberShot - and I though that maybe this had
corrupted my config for the Canon. So I installed the driver on my PC
at work and, voila, it did connect to my PC there!

I followed Canon's web site on how to uninstall and reinstall the WIA
driver but it still does not solve the issue. BTW, I did the same for
the TWAIN driver but got an error "1608" when reinstalling it...

I beleive that it is a software issue... unless my dog chewed on the
USB cable but I see no visual harm to it. It is not the USB connector
itself because I changed it and plugged my Siemens phone where I used
to have my G3.

I even tried to change the Normal/PTP connection mode I saw somewhere
I believe on this newsgroup...

I have not updated my XP system, still running with SP1.

Any ideas?

In the meantime, I did solve another issue that was bothering me. When
I purchased my G3 it came with the Sandisk ImageMate SDDR-75. It could
read my 256M CF card but not my new 512M. I happens that I had to
disable LEgacy USB support in my PC's bios. So, although I can't read
my pictures from my G3 I can now read them from my CF card reader.

Tks.

I think you may have answered your own question when you said you disabled your legacy usb support. A question that occured to me was, have you had an occasion to restore your XP to an earlier date for some reason? If so, you could have restored it to a date before you installed your camera software. If it's OK at work, then it's not the camera, it's the computer.

Why worry? I use a cheap CF card reader on USB to download the pictures from camera. Never failed for nearly 2 years.

 Me too. I switched to a $15 card reader a while ago. As soon as I insert the card XP asks me where I want to open the pictures. I usually click Elements 2 and I immediately can edit my shots. Cool

I solved my problems.

First, the USB CF Reader (Sandisk SDDR-75) I was telling you about - that it now worked - well, it failed again. So I bought a new one (forget the name though). That one works !!!

It also happens that this CF card reader comes with USB to Camera connector. So I tried it and ... tada, my PC now detects my camera !!!

So, I solved my problem and, with my new CF card reader, I even was able to free up some space on my card by removing "lost sectors" (anyone remembers "chkdsk" under good old DOS?).

Now gotta solve my remote control issue... tks again guys!

Congrats on working it out. Now, What kind of issues do you have with the remote?

My remote will simply no longer operate my G3 :( It used to work though! I changed the batteries and I can see that it emits light.

A post on this forum told me to look at P175 of the guide... I have yet to do that (and see what it refers to). It might be a good old RTFM issue :-P

Good luck with this Max. I have yet to use the remote on my G-5, since I use the timer instead.
