View Full Version : A Thing Called Karma...

So today started out fairly well I suppose, besides the snowy weather/roads and heavy traffic due to a malfunctioning traffic light. I woke up and took my wife to work that way I can swing by and pick her up after work and head straight to Cheyenne from there. We'll be there through Monday night.

Anyhow, after taking her to work I went and took care of a friend's dog. I avoided the busy road with all the traffic and brought an alternate route home, saving me probably about an hour or so. I was listening to the radio and the station I listen to does an annual fundraiser for the Children's Hospital here in Denver. They try to get as many pledges as possible, $15 a month for however long you want to do it for. I heard just the saddest story I think I ever have, which made me call and pledge. So that's what I did...

After calling I felt so great. It was just as if this huge burden had somehow been lifted off. My little donation each month from now until whenever I cannot afford a measly $15 a month is helping those in need. I wish I could do more, I really do.

I had an appointment at noon with Nancy, a very talented lady who does custom portfolios, in downtown Denver. I got there at about 11:30 because I had misjudged how busy the roads were going to be, which is good and bad... good I made it early but bad I had about 20-25 minutes to kill before meeting with Nancy. I waited in my car and just kept listening to the radio, heard more and more sad/funny/hopeful stories.

After my meeting with Nancy, I walked out to a wonderful yellow slip wedged in my door.
PARKING VIOLATION
So I was like, um, okay... The sign right *THERE* says 2 Hour Limit Mon-Fri except weekend and holidays. I got here at 11:30 and it's now 12:47, what the hell???? I called the number and I will be disputing this baby next week. It says, "Time Marked: 10:25:00 AM" "Time Issued: 12:33 PM" I was here at home at 10:25, with proff that I sent my wife 2 emails, one at 10:36 and another at 10:41. I cannot obviously do that while I am in my car without inernet access.

So much for good karma today. I've nearly been hit three times by other drivers as well because they cannot drive.

Should be an interesting 115 mile drive to Cheyenne. It's always a crazy drive. I'm just hoping everyone is at the restaurants, bars, or anywhere else off the dang highway enjoying their dinner/movie/concert/play/whatever this evening on Valentine's Day.

I still feel great about donating though. Nothing better. If anyone else here in the area, or anywhere really, wants to donate, please PM me. I can give you the info.

Good for you on donating but sorry you got a ticket. Hopefully it can be cleared up.

Remember the law of karma doesn't have relevance on the material plane in this way. It is the sum of your intentions, often in the form of actions. What you did was cool and the more one does 'the right thing' or intelligent action then the better. People reap what they sew ... cause and effect. So the a**holes reap the consiquences of their own intentions down stream. Don't let what they do impact on you. keep doing intelligent action and all is cool dude :-)

Yeah this too shall pass. I'm going to go in next week and hopefully get this ticket cleared. I am having Nancy email me saying when I was there and it was impossible that I was there for over two hours, and I have the emails too.

I know what you mean Condyk... :)

Hey, it's probably because of your pledge, you received a mere ticket instead of getting the car towed (and delayed the trip). It's probably because of the pledge, those three drivers didn't hit you front, side and rear at the same time. You will arrive Cheyenne safely because someone will be given a hand due to your phone call making the pledge. See, you've been given a lot of good karma already ;).

From the window of my last home I watched a traffic warden stand at the corner of a building, peeking round, waiting for a young guy to walk away from his car. The traffic warden would know that if the young guy seen him he would drive off and - no ticket. I opened the window and whistled but the young guy didn't hear. As soon as he was out of sight the warden ran over and slapped the ticket on the car. Grrr. They don't get paid on commision but I'm sure some of them get a kick out of it or are in competition with each other.
Anyhoo, you did an admirable thing Jeff. I wish good things to come your way - soon.
P.S. Hope your over the whole boringusall thing...;):D. Take care

The bravest bumper sticker I ever saw was "Meter Maids Eat Their Young." I don't have the stones to put something like THAT on my car.

Meter Maids are also a vindictive lot. In this section of town, there are two-hour parking rules. One woman got in a argument with a Meter Maid over a ticket. Then, months later, she's getting notices from the city about unpaid parking tickets. Tickets for places she's never been. Apparently, these vindictive witches share problem plates with each other and write them up when no car is there. The woman was only able to bring the whole thing to light because some of the tickets were issued at the same time in different parts of town.

I remember in the early 80's, the Palm Springs, California, Meter Maids would travel downtown in a big loop with a golf cart and a chalk stick (a 3-foot stick with a big piece of chalk on the end). They would mark the tires of cars as they went. Since their loop would take them more than the alloted time for the street (say, 2-hours), if they came along and saw their mark, they knew they should write a ticket.

Here in Uptown New Orleans, the Meter Maids "remember" the cars. Uh, excuse me? They REMEMBER the cars? That system sucks.

I've seen Meter Maids flicking the dials on nearly expired meters. Apparently in the hope that they can force the mechanism to flip to the end of the paid-for time. They're just mean spiteful women. I cannot imagine the childhood these beasts must have had.

^^^

Lol, I had a buddy who owned a bar that needed some PT help so I would fill in whenever I could help and they did the chalk on the tire bit to. Some of the customers would let me know when she came by and after about 20 minutes I'd go out and move the lines so they wouldn't match the spot on the ground.

She was a bit heated when she finally figured it out and tried to do something about it. From where I stood it was akin to vandalism, and there were a few lawyers inside that agreed that if I just casually walked up to her little three wheeler and started writing on it I'd be arrested and charged with it. She got all huffy and stormed off.
