It's hard for me to get the white snow to appear white. I know it seldom does in real life :) but both monitors I look at it with make it way more red than I'd like, so I've tweaked the color balance some, possibly too far.

Hmm..............IF...............the leaf was a perfect all around yellow.........this would've been a great shot........

But unfortunately..............its dying...........with dark spots..............

I like the dews on top though.........but I just can't say the same to the photo as a whole.

So, Ro1, you're suggesting that only perfect objects (where do you find those, I wonder?) are acceptable subjects for photography? Personally, I'll continue to shoot what I see, where I find it.

And guess what? The perfect yellow leaf you envision is dieing, too, dead already, in fact, if it's on the ground.

I can't argue, of course, about whether it works for you overall, and I appreciate your comments, I just disagree with what I perceive as the thinking behind them.

I happen to like the brown spots. This image is very cold and reminiscent of the cycle of life. I like it.

I second Roanjohn, and I personally think the stem is too close to the edge of frame. And you ask where to find perfect things to photograph.....many more leaves where that one came from, I suppose..

Actually, I like the shot. I think the brown spots add character to this picture. To me, this picture speaks about the demise of the leaf with the onset of winter.

No, it's not perfect, but my first impression was one of pleasure when I saw it.

Keep up the good work.

rick's got the right idea... the spots help to tell a story for me. Whether or not its the same story the artist intended, its a story. A perfect leaf laying on the snow would say only one thing to me; the photographer unnaturally set a perfect leaf on the snow and got too caught up in the details of the technical aspects of the photography and forgot all about telling a story with content.

Exactly my feelings daniel but you were far more eloquent at expressing them than I.
