How Am I Doing?

Hi guys! I haven't been around in a while, been too busy. A lot of great shot being taken here. I thought I would post a couple of my kids hockey game. These where shot from the bench, yeah I got lucky for this one game. Here's a silly question: how do you post a bigger picture?

Looks like a couple of decent action captures but they seem a bit dark to me. Maybe bump up exposure a bit in the post processing. Not too much that the ice gets too washed out. I battle with that balance all the time (see my two recent threads here called Pee Wee Hockey Tournament (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=453800) and Pee Wee Hockey Tournament II (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=453806)). Shooting from the bench is a good location. We are lucky here that our home rinks don't have glass on penalty boxes, so I often try to go in there to shoot a bit. Otherwise I am up in the stands, or (least preferred) thru the glass.

As to posting bigger images, they should post at whatever size you have saved them at. I post mine to my web host and then just provide a link to them.

Thanks cstewart! I did look at your post and you've got some great action shots, however, I can see the ice washed out and like the other guy said the white on the jersey's seem washed out. I wish our hockey games had more action, I think you got some great action shots! Yeah I'm still learning and learning alot...I was thinking the my exposure was pretty good but when I come back here I see that my exposure is still a little dark, I must pp it a little more then. I shoot 3200 at f2.8 so I guess it has to be pp.

yes most of mine are also at 3200 and f2.8-3.5 depending and I need to PP a bit. I guess I go a bit too far in bumping up most of mine though. I think I need a new, properly calibrated monitor! Or else my brain/eyes just see things brighter than they should be!

I'd try levelling your horizon in that second shot, too. I know that sometimes the viewing angle means the boards will be a little crooked. What I do in these cases is to use either the vertical glass supports or the net posts as a guideline. If these are straight up and down then the shot will look okay even if the shooting perspective means the tops of the boards are not quite level.

As far as the pp exposure goes, make sure you are using a properly calibrated monitor. Otherwise, what looks good to you will be off for the rest of us.

I shoot exclusively in RAW, which gives me better pp control than shooting JPG. Of course, I don't have media or other rushed deadlines (ie: getting prints to parents before end of game) to deal with.
