Hi guys, I am new to this forum... Heres my first post.. :)

I am looking to buy a digital SLR... I have decided to narrow my choices betwee two camera, either between a used D60 or the Rebel 300D...

Does anyone know how these cameras compare to eachother and which would would be better portrait pictures of people outdoors?

I could not find any previous thread on this messageboard that was of any help.

Thanks for your time.

Well, the D60 is about 2 years older than the 300D. I have never held a D60, but I'm guessing it will have a better feel to it, the 300D's shell is plastic. The 10D replaced the D60, and the 300D is pretty much a 10D with a few features lacking. I would put my money in the newer technology that the 300D would have over the D60 (whatever that technology may be). Or, check out a 10D (new or used)

I traded my Digital Rebel for a D60. While the Rebel is a newer camera I feel I have more control with the D60. I can get to do what I want while I cannot say that about the Rebel. funny, but I bought a D30 as a backup to the Rebel but found myself using it more, so I traded it...Dean

If no other difference, the D60 is a lot heavier than a Digital Rebel. For some people, that is good. For other people, that is bad.

I have both the D60 and the 10D. Since you are just starting, personnally I would recommend you start watching for a good deal on the 10D. I used the D60 through a little over 5500 pictures in the year and a half I have had it, and still keep it as a backup for the 10D. Again personnally if the 10D would allow me to shoot RAW mode in all shooting modes I would say the 10D was the perfect camera for me. If I only had a choice between the D60 and the Rebel/300D, the D60 would be my choice hands down, but because the 20D has been released and lots of people are going to want the latest and greatest, the price on the 10D's are going to come down somewhat, and would suggest you look there first, then look at the D60.

Henry,

with the 20D hitting the shelves, there will be a lot of used 10D's available at attractive prices.

Visit a camera shop and test out the 10D and the 300D. Do not underestimate the 'feel' of the camera. The D60 should be similar in 'feel' to the 10D. However, the performance (especially Autofocus) of both the 300D and 10D will be better than the D60.

Best regards,
Andy

PS: When you're at it, why don't you sneak a look at the 20D
