I'll post some action tomorrow but I am still working through almost 900 images from the game/weddings and have a 7am shoot in the morning. This one is a teaser. Shot taken pregame for a lifesize cutout print the team is using in the arena (ala fathead kind of thing). Anyway, lemme know whatcha think.

Do they not need the whole stick?

I would say its crooked but if its for a cutout, I suppose it doesnt matter.

Scott, it looks fake...maybe that's what they want - but personally if I was you I would tell the goalie to start about 6 feet out the crease and "pretend" (i.e., act) like it was a shootout attempt and back up to the goal like a shooter was coming. That gives the "real" effect while still being a setup shot. To me it's more appealing but hey, if they asked for that then you do what the client wants!

On another note, I just started adding those - www.wallhogs.com - to my inventory and ordered a test shot. I do have to say I'm impressed, for all you youth/high school photogs out there it may be something to consider. It looks really cool and I'm sure parents would like it while the kids love it!

Its a good exposure but I think I would bump up the saturation to make the magenta color pop a little more and maybe bump up the light blue also .... just my opinion

thanks for the advice guys. I just threw this up here quickly (I probably have 9-10 images of this) so I'd definitely use one with a whole stick.

I also know it's not the best position but the person in charge insisted this is how they wanted the look. Weiman (the keeper) and I both fought it but in the end, it doesn't matter since they write the checks. Truth be told, they initially had him out between the hash marks facing the stands and almost upright. We managed to talk them out of that and considered this a compromise.

When I select a final image, I'll give it a go with the color bump and see how it looks.

Thanks again.

yeah, 1DM2, first shoot with it and I was pretty impressed. Seems to underexpose a bit (maybe 1/3-2/3) but that may have been the meter being fooled since I was metering reflected light not incident.

Ahhh...those people in charge never know what they're doing! I've run into a few times but as you said found a compromise...usually I'll describe something with as much detail as I can but making it sound good so they go "huh, ok, um, yea, do that".

I have a concept for this kid in the OHL, but no client to shoot the darn thing, makes it difficult :)

if you think it would work with one of the Cleveland AHL guys, drop me a note. Might be able to get them hooked on the idea.

Funny about clients though. This morning I had an early shoot (as in I had to be there at 7 and it was a 1.5hr drive). Anyway, it was for a congressional campaign so I assumed they'd pretty much call all the shots Thing was, the candidate, his staff, and the agency writing the check out of DC all were very open to any ideas we had. Guess it comes down with the ego of who you are dealing with.

Ice looks yellow

That happens often as the ice is not as white as you'd think...

Ice looks yellowcould be some of the reflection you see off the bottom of the boards or maybe a monitor difference. If anything I see a tiny bit of pink but not yellow. Thanks for looking and sorry I don't see that.

Mike's right for sure. Ice is hardly white and even when it is, it is so reflective that many colors can get picked up rather easily imo.

Well, it's for a kid who's not eligible for the draft until after next year. It could work for AHL guys but would have to be a high draft pick (1st rounder) that is expected to do good things in the NHL...just a concept I have in me noggin :)

Last year I went to a all-star game and was told I have to talk with the hired photographer, as I was shooting for a magazine, about doing portraits. So I went to talk to him and he had no fricken clue what he wanted to do, he told me his "idea" and I told him he can do that but then send the players to me so I can do what I want. Soon as I set up and told the event director what I wanted all of a sudden the hired photog just copied me, everything I did he did right after me because the director liked it better. Some are open, some are closed - really depends if the photog can sell his idea or make the clients idea better.

I do see the reflection of the boards, and see the ice is "dark" compared to the jersey but thats nothing different at any arena.

In my reading so far, most people have suggested just dialing in +1/3 EC and using that as a starting point. I have mine set that way and have been pleased with the results so far.

I wish the stinkin' soccer season would start already!

amen to that. anxious for some outdoor shooting soon! I think I am going to buy an incident meter but I'll remember that about adding a little.

Mike, give me a shout or drop me an email if you want to bounce any ideas around (promise I won't steal them  but maybe it might be worth you coming back to town (before baseball season) if it seems like there's an opportunity.

Scott, emailed...well ok, I havent yet - but I will in a sec.

I'll look at Clevelands roster and see if anyone "fits" the criteria.
