Ok so I decided to shoot ambient in the first half of the game because it was one of the few gyms that is possible here in Utah. On one side of the court they have really good lighting, 1600 ISO F2.8 400-640. If I went to 3200 ISO I could get 1/800th.

Anyways the story of the game was that Alta let a mentally slower (I hope that does not offend someone, I don't know what to call the kid) kid play in the game. I believe he was a senior and helps out with the team in every way possible. I believe he is on the roster, but has never played. Just gets stuff when needed and what not.

Well towards the end of the 2nd quarter they let this great kid in and he is shadowing his guy like white on rice. Does a great job and his guy misses the shot. Well they go down on offense and of course the other team leaves the kid wide open, well Alta guy throws him the ball. I am sure you can guess what happens next, from a foot behind the 3 point line he launches the ball! The ball hits nothing but the bottom of the net, 3 pointer is good, and the kids go crazy for him! Sidelines are cheering like crazy, the players are going crazy. It was a very cool scene. Here are some of those shots along with my other shots of the game.

Enjoy

Fun stuff. One of the joys of shooting at MS and HS is the chance to share in the joys/heartbreaks of these young people.

Cool story, nice images. Sometimes all a person needs is a chance and they can make something good happen. Thanks for sharing these images.

At the end of the day (over used phrase).... that's what it is all about. Catching those stories. Good job. Cheers.

thanks :) it was great. I mean the chances he would hit his first shot and the chances it would a straight swish, wow. Everyone in that gym went crazy it was great to see.

It's been done a few times out here - few years ago the school I coach baseball at did it for a kid who was there manager I believe. Not positive as I wasn't there but the other teams forward got the rebound, handed the kid the ball, who missed, the same rebounder handed it to him again and he made it.

In 2006 another team did it, except the kid scored 20 points in 4 minutes. Disney bought the rights to the story, met the president, whole bunch of appearances, stories on ESPN and every other TV station, magazine, etc.

In both cases there was not that good of photos that came from the game - so nice that you got to capture that!
