This snuck up on me, its next weekend in NYC. I've been thinking about taking the train in, but I cant find out how much one day at the show is without registering and giving em all my info first. Anyone going, anyone excited about it?

Well, I did some detective work this week and was able to get a free expo pass from mpix myself, so I checked out the show this morning.

Dont know if I was a wide eyed rube or if the Canon demos were truly more fun and informative than any other I had ever been a party to at a trade show (and I've been to dozens, CES etc)... The 'Explorers of Light' website which I have been following came to life and it was very interesting to watch how they handled studio lighting and the quality of prints they kept burning to 13x20 and poster size was amazing. They claimed that NO postprocessing was done, but each had at least an overlay with camera detail stamped on em, so who knows.

I appreciated getting to throw the entire line of Canon lenses on a 20 d (except the 10-22 which I REALLY wanted to try) and give em a shot. 12 more inches on the damn wire would have gone a long way tho!

I was really impressed with the weight difference between the 70-200 4l and the 2.8 IS L. I think I will stick with my plan on getting the 4L first and decide in the future if double the price is really worth my investment.

I also got to check out the 100 Macro and liked what I saw. Got to see how the 100-400L works with the push/pull and locking. Neat, but boy I dont see how anyone can really hand hold it for any time. Was also pretty impressed with the 17-85 Kit lens, but still not convinced its worth the asking price. If it had a solid wide aperature of 3 or less I would be right there in line for it, I think.

Dell will be getting a call from me on Monday....
