If I could get some feedback, it would be appreciated. Who enables the invisible focus point in Al Servo or do you simply use the certer point? I'm debating if I change my function setting. Thanks for your input!

Most of the time I just use the center focus point. Before I make the shot, I usually know where I want the focus to be.

The hidden points only work if you turn on the Cf-n for them, you are using Servo and the center point is currently active (either user selected or the current auto pick active point).

I tend to like the hidden points. The only times I'm using servo I'm ususally shooting something like indoor gymnastics. The hidden points help me keep the focus on the athelete as they twist and flip about. I notice with my 30D that sometimes the focus will jump to a wall behind the athelete if I let the point walk off the subject. The 5D is a little better in that regard due to the hidden points.

Here is an uncropped example. You see the center point is on the athelete, but note all the ceiling junk beyond that the AF would just love to grab given a chance. The hidden points help the servo stay on the athelete as he flips around and around.

I love the hidden points (the mini ring of fire as I like to think of it) for Servo and I always have them on. I've found it makes tracking objects far more consistent and accurate, as it stops the focus from hunting if the subject falls slightly outside the focus point.

You talkin' about the duck? I shot that just for you guys actually . It was my 200L's inauguration, so to speak.

Yeah pretty much :D. That one was pretty easy actually. It was close to sunset, so all the ducks were going crazy, flying around all over the place. Servo, expanded points, a steady arm, good aim, and a bit of waiting, and timing is all it took.

Nice pic. ... Yea, I wish the 30D had this feature. I run into that problem where the focus point will jump ..... That's when I tend to just switch to MF mode.
