Wow, nice sharp image, and the lighting was just right. ... Not to harsh and not too dim (whichis often what you have to work with!!). ;)

I had the camera set on a fixed shutter speed and used the camera meter set on spot (or, as close as a 20D comes to spot).

I had one, but it wasn't really necessary. I've shot in the Bowery many times without one although some artists might not permit it.
