View Full Version : WORLD WIDE PHOTO WEEK: PART 100 -- Communication

BLS
17th of February 2008 (Sun), 18:52
The theme for this week is "Communication." Interpret this any way you like, as different and unusual interpretations are always welcome.

Here are the rules:

1. Shots need to be taken between sunrise Monday and sunset the following Sunday. Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Crummy shots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!

2. Post your shots at any time during the week.

3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e.,embedding them), but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the rules can be found here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=51049 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51049)

That's it! Have fun!

What happened to 99? Or did I miss the Part 99 thread :(.

BLS

The theme for Part 99 was Geometric.
However, I made a mistake when I started the thread; I numbered it 98 instead of 99.
So we actually had two Part 98's. :o

David showed me the error of my ways.
When I started this thread for Communication I numbered it Part 100 to make the correction.

You can still post Geometric shots if you have them. Love to see them.

I see, I haven't had time to really go out and shoot lately. I've just been following these threads and seeing what wonderful pictures everyones been posting. I'm planning on joining my school newspaper so maybe I might be able to get a few shots in for this theme.

Thanks Barbara.. Too bad Tommy Jensen hasn't had the time to place the rest of these threads in the overview page Here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=170603)
There is also a long list of ideas here

I, too, wish the overview could be updated.
Maybe it will be sometime.

I use the list of ideas a lot.
It sure helps when it's time to suggest new topics!

Thought I'd jump right in this week.

Whisper:

I told my youngest to whisper something to my oldest -- so he did. I was told later that what he said was "whisper whisper whisper."

You could add a post with the missing links to the bottom of the list and then PM Tommy to have him edit the first post. I know he's been really busy with work lately, so it might take him a bit to make the additions, but if all he has to do is copy and paste I'm sure he'd do it.

I've got a couple of events worth of shots that I'm trying to process and post up tonight and tomorrow or I'd start working on it.

Try sending the PM to Belmondo if EuroMod isn't getting time to do it.

David -- Love your shot!

Later this week I'll try to work on a list of links to previous WWPW's for Tommy.

We had a light snow last night.
This morning the skies were blue for the first time in weeks (or at least it seems like weeks).

I couldn't resist sneaking out for a few shots.
Here's a "Communication" shot:

Nice one ... this has been an interesting theme. I went out today to shoot a couple but my battery on the G9 failed. What I have found this week is I have become very aware by how surrounded we are be communication: brand comms, safety warnings, buy this, see this, go this way, don't go this way, transport messages, what people look like, what they wear. It is extraordinary by how much there is to see and hear and how little one actually notices ... unless you start to notice. Pictures will follow once I sort the battery charge ;-)

:lol::lol: Nice one
Thanks, Dave.

David -- Love your shot!
It was my first time out in the sunshine with the 50 f/1.4 I got for Christmas, so it was a lot of fun to play with the kids. They're not always willing to hold still, but are usually more than willing to ham it up a bit.

Welcome.. :)

Glad that worked out -- a lot of great ideas there for refreshing one's photo-mojo!

You're right -- it's hard not to see something that fits communication. What seemed harder to me was seeing something that said communication without feeling like that communication was intrusive. I guess that's why I thought of something as old-fashioned and private as a whisper for my first shot.

Barbara's shot does a nice job of demonstrating communication without feeling like what's being communicated is forced at the viewer, too.

Thanks, guys.

I'm also noticing things more, so I'm glad we chose this theme.

Here are a couple of whimsical shots.
This man's accessories seem to send a message.

And just when I began to understand cell phones, I learned I have to fear all phones. ;)

Any other ideas?

Joayne -- Great find!
Area code 215.
Isn't that Philadelphia?

Dave -- This looks like a visual joke. The sign tells us to thrive, but the cyclist will probably stop thriving as soon as he finishes hitting that pole.

Yeah ... I dunno what the joke is exactly but there is one there. I think it is the word thrive which to me is about being expansive and growing and then the little guy pottering and whizzing about on his moped. Maybe that is the way to get about in busy city traffic ... at least until some a** smacks into him

BLS

Whatever the joke, his ride reminds me of the little Yamaha I had in my late teens.
I enjoyed it lots.

I'll soon be venturing out to do some errands.
I'll take the camera with, so (who knows?) I might get another shot.

Fun shots. There are certainly more than enough bumper stickers to go around here.

I'm not sure if my kids would know how to operate a dial phone. A few toy phones with dials have passed by, and the kids didn't seem quite sure what to do with them.

Sorry - the units are a bit dusty - I was using them in the Landy yesterday on a bush trek - pulled them out for this shot - don't wanna show you them in-situ - it's a bit dusty in there
