First time i have shot these (first time i have heard of them) and they were absolutely awesome, sort of Country Blues with a 50's feel. really good, and they kept swapping instruments. Very talented band, and they are one Family.

I was expecting a completly different Kitty. I though it was going to be the female metal band kitty :)
Some really nice shots there! Do you arrange your passes through the bands or through the carling directly?

That a "huh" to me? You weren't getting a lot of comments and were complaining in a couple of threads so I was just pointing out that Burrelly was commenting. I think this is the best this set of posts. Love that trombone girl!

James I think what Dwight was trying to point out that you are not always going to recieve comments on your images. Do not worry if you do not it does not mean they are bad etc.
I have made posts and recived thousands of views and no comments. People tent to comment on stuff they know and alot of the bands you shoot are a little unknown other than by a select few.
I try to comment on most of the thread in this forum but people do have lives aswell and do not spend all the time on the forum. If you post images and get no comments dont stress just accept it and move on. Do not "bump" the thread as it were as people will react to that and not give you constructive comments as we have seen :)
So main point of this is if you get comments great if not dont worry.

Are Promoters the same as the Band Management?

Are Promoters the same as the Band Management?
Promotors are the people that book the bands for a venue and sell the tickets etc. They are generally in contact with the band managers.

While Burrelly is pretty much correct, one thing to be aware of is that every arrangement is different. Some bands self promote and self manage. Others do their own management. Some have both management and promoters although promoters are usually more aligned with venues. I have a friend who is a promoter and at one time he had a group of ten venues affiliated with radio stations and would locate bands to play at all ten locations with radio spots at the stations. And all this may be separate or tied to recording deals/studios and most are unrelated to the media, whether newspapers or magazines. And then there are vendors such as the instrument manufacturers who may "sponsor" a band. I point this out only so you don't limit yourself when searching for an entree. One of the big criticisms of the music industry is that there are just too many people sucking off the tit and leaving too little for the actual talent ... but it does give you a much broader base of opportunity to solicit commissions.

"People tent to comment on stuff they know and a lot of the bands you shoot are a little unknown other than by a select few."
- it should be about the images though, not the band no?
I wasnt stressing, sorry to annoy people lol.

I think that is like suggesting that images in Sports should only have technical discussions and not about the teams, particular sport, personalities, ages, children, etc. So, no, I think knowing a band, knowing its members, knowing their style, knowing their genre is very significant. It's all important.

To be honest an image can be technically perfect but it is still a bad image as it does not fit the band or the band style. A good music photographer needs to be able to set the mood of the gig with his pictures.
Looking at an image you should be able to tell the mood of the song. It is all about capturing a feeling rather than just a picture.

I agree but looking at them i wouldnt of thought they would play country blues type as they have a 50's style, So sometimes i think thats not possible.
Cheers.
