On friday i went out with this band (Hollis Browne) to take some promo shots for them. I met the lead singer on a ski trip with my brothers school and he was interested in some pics of him and his band...

So....

Group band shots:

this is when the train came barreling down the tracks, they were about 6 feet from it as it passed. The lead singer was the only one who stayed by the tracks when the train was first seen, then the rest of them came over because they saw it was safe.

Someone will probably complain about the harsh shadows here ;)

In the studio playing a few songs for me, they sounded awesome! This was seriously really really small. So tight. i was practically on top of them while i was shooting, but still the pics came out pretty well.

#1 Has far to much lense flair.
#2 The lighting is off and casting really harsh shadows. Did you use direct flash?

#3 and #4 I like these but they seem a little washed out.

#5 I quite like the idea but it could be doing with a little more DOF

#6 and #7 I would have like to have seen in colour as the b&w conversion doe not look quite right. how did you do it? just adjust the levels down to about 10 - 20? I can see a little colour in them.

#8 is nice but a little blown around the nose.

#9 I like again but blown to the left hand side.

10# the best shot out of the set. Really like that photo :)

Thanks for the comments.

6&7 were PP'd that way to still maintain some of the color. same things goes for 3&4.

#2 was direct flash to camera right. i knew the harsh shadows would erk some people, but i can live with that.

3 and 4 are really nice, although in 2 it looks like one of them is not wearing a hat but his shadow is (i know its the shadow of the other guy) :)

cheers

That's funny and I didn't catch it. why don't you put a hat shadow behind the other 3 but not the guy with the hat...okay getting silly. I am out.

I like the 1st pic, DigiRebelXTI...

The train shots have potential. I'd try to get them facing and looking at you more (last train pic)...

Which tracks is this on, LIRR? I know Queens pretty well... There is a large conglomeration of stationery trains near Flushing Meadows. Just a few blocks of Grand Central Pkwy and Union Turnpike... Might be fenced out though.

How about a large bus station? Or Jones Beach etc.... You'll get a lot of instant recognition if the background is easily identifiable... Or shoot them at the ski area, or on the ski slopes... You can have a lot of fun with this... And don't forget to post more here. Cheers.
