Hey every one! I'm new to these boards, and I need some help...

I'm a senior in high school, who is currently working as a sports photographer for my dad (editor) at a local news paper.....

I currenlty have the Canon 40D, but when it comes to lens, i only Have a few minor ones, so I have to borrow my dad's lens.

So my questions for you are.........

I plan on getting a Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 IS USM for outdoor sports (ie. baseball, etc.) for mostly daytime stuff...

.... I would like a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM, to use for inside sports like basketball and maybe high school football when it comes aound... The question is, should I buy the 70-200 new or used??

Your help is gratefully appreciated!

I bought all my lenses used, and have had no problems. I don't know for a fact, but I'm thinking that lower-end lenses MAY be more of a bargain second hand then high end lenses which might hold their value better. I personally would have more peace of mind having a warrantee (or exchange) on a $1000+ lens incase it has a problem or isn't as sharp as it should be.

That depends. Lenses don't lose much of their value. I bought my 70-200 2.8 IS new from B&H for $1450 with the instant rebate and coupon code. Its hard to find it for that on the used market.

I was told with it having the IS you would want to have the warrenty. More things to go wrong with the camera. I did find an non IS used one for 1000.00 so I was only saving around $150.00 I would think that a IS used of course will be a higher price..so I would buy new. Its not that much difference.
