Does anyone have any reviews or experience with this printer ?
I know it's pretty new, but I'm looking to replace my Canon i850 (It doesn't do greens or reds very well).

Does anyone use Kodak's previous thermal printers ?

How do they compare to good inkjet printers (i990, R800 etc...)

I know they're a little bit more expensive, but it's print quality I'm after more than initail cost savings.

I've heard about the Canon Pixma iP8500, but it's not out in the UK yet, so I can't get a sample print from their website. I've had a sample from the iP4000 and it doesn't even stand up to the quality of my i850 ! (grainy)

Thanks for any replies.

Gary.

Have 2 8500's and 3 Epson ink jet printers- I use all the ink jets for reports, brochures, letterheads, double-sided album pages, artsy christmas cards, etc but not to print customer prints. Dye sub prints are most like actual wet process photo prints. They are laminated, will not smudge, run etc. The 8500's print consistant from print to print. Print costs are consistant (depending on where and how you buy supplies). The only problem you have with dye sub prints are dust- spots and lines. Keep your printers covered with dust covers all the time you aren't using them and clean them often.

Hey, that's funny, two threads about the Kodak 1400 printer at the same time.
Here's the other one: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51218

I have the Kodak 8500 dye sub printer, the precursor to the 1400. I can tell you this: I am 100% happy with it, why? No problem with clogging, no problem handling multiple cartridgesl. No problem with smearing and the prints are laminated before they come out of the printer. Great color, great paper (glossy or matte) and great print life. The cost per 8 X 10 print is $1.78, and you can make several prints of a small size on one sheet of paper if you desire. Also, you do not waste paper and/or ink because one of the cartridges has run out; there are no cartridges. This price per print will not change. I get a finished print in less than 75 seconds. I understand the 1400 will print in 90 seconds. This printer was not discontinued; Kodak only added the 1400 to their line of printers. I also understand the 1400 will price at $599.00. I'm sure you'll love it.

I just want to add that I have NEVER had a problem with dust; I keep my printer covered when not in use. Nor have I ever had to clean it. Additionally, the entire paper path is covered by the printer itself. I bought my printer new about a year ago.
