Considering joining NAPP, and as a student they allow a $10 discount! (don't they know that 1 college class is near $700 anymore)

I've seriously considered it. I buy the magazine anyway. Maybe I will.

My wife was bugging me recently about what I might want for Christmas. Perhaps that's what I'll mention in my note to Santa.

Usually Barnes & Noble or Borders.
BTW, it's the only magazine whose old copies I save. Actually, I usually buy two copies....one to read, and an archive copy for future reference.

IMHO the magazine alone is worth the $100. Plus you get free shipping from B&H (if you can wait for ground - right!) and many other benefits.

Alas, I *still* haven't joined....

Don't forget you also get discounts on books, new releases of PS, seminars as well I think it's worth it.

For some reason I could not do the poll but I've been a member since March & yes it's worth it to me.
Free Shipping with B&H
The magazine has some great photoshop tips
The website has a great deal of short videos on PS
If you like to get creative with your photos & photoshop the $$$ is well worth it.
Just my thaughts :D

I couldn't do the poll either, but I have been a member for almost a year and will renew that membership. I find the wealth of information available invaluable. The magazine is great, the website offers a variety of tutorials and hints, the staff is knowlegeable and you get prompt and insightful replies. There are many discounts and perks available as members which, if used, can repay the annual fees easily. It's worth it to me, but whether or not it is to you is a question that I cannot answer.

dsze

Thanks everyone for all the responses...I don't know what happened to the Poll. Oh well.

For those who like the value, how would you rate your PS knowledge prior to signing up for the membership?

NAPP is great if you think you might or ever will buy the mags. It was the main reason i joined. But they have a very decent resource center and there forums are good for coming up with new ideas. They are also coming out with a new Lightroom mag and members get it for free. And yes the discounts are really nice on plug-ins, i havent bought any cuz im waiting for cs3. I encourage everyone to join.

I would say i knew a lot of the nuts and bolts of photoshop, but now i can make photoshop bend to my will.

Billginthekeys

i voted, yes i learn alot, but its actually, yes it pays for itself. through using the discounts for free shipping, cheaper software and seminars, not to mention an extra 5% off at dell it more than paid for itself the first year, so i signed on for two more. that and i love the magazine.

I ended up buying the magazine most months, when I could find it. Most book stores only get a few copies. Now, not only is the magazine delivered every month, they have lots of online tutorials, free B&H shipping, plus lots of other discounts. I think I pretty much get my membership back in free shipping.

I joined two years ago when I was going to take one of their seminars up in Boston so I could get the $20 off. Between discounted seminars, photoshop user magazine, the free standard B&H shipping that turns out to be overnight for me in CT, the incredible amount of free tutorials on their web site, and the upcoming free Darkroom magazine; I'd have to say it's well worth it.

I have been a NAPP member for five years. The PHOTOSHOP user mag. is full of tips, tricks and touch articles that very helpful. NAPP also has many online tutorials, free plug-ins and software reviews. IMO well worth the $$$.

hmmmm....

$10/month for Photoshop User Mag x 12 months = $120

$99 membership includes a subscription + many other benefits = no brainer if you have any interest at all in the digital darkroom.

By the way, you can subscribe to PhotoshopTV for free via podcast/iTunes

Yeah. I've been a member almost since they started. At least 7 years! Well worth it. I would love to do the Boston thing but gee. That seems like a lot of bread for a show and some crowded seminars.

Do you think it is worth the cost of the NAPP show? No question about the annual membership value, but $400 for a show and crowded seminars??

For those wondering about the value of membership, here is a link to the latest newsletter showing discounts etc.

ii would have only paid the student cost, which was like $150. no way id pay $400, but if i were in the industry. and with all those seminars you would get your moneys worth i guess.

Marketing genius at work.

They sell the highest-priced piece of software in the image editing business,
but wait, there's more!
If you perpetually send them more money each year, they will send you information on how to use their product!

Is this a great country, or what?

I think the car makers are losing out big-time by not charging people to teach them how to drive.

ohenry

NAPP is an independent source from Adobe. They do not sell Adobe products. To equate your analogy to car makers, NAPP sells after market add-ons for your car.

NAPP has nothing to do financially with Adobe. NAPP is a separate company in Florida.

NAPP has no direct relation with Adobe, they are a seperate organization/publication that just happens to be the most popular and fully fuctional out there.

I just wish the Photoshop TV would lose the attempted humor. It's a drag and gets in the way of learning. Scott Kelby, who owns NAPP )I think) is the worst for that, but Matt and Dave Cross are worth it alone!

No idea, but just the mag and the free shipping from B&H make it worth it. In fact, I think they are adding a new mag for lightroom!

Having said that, I often prepare to buy something at a certain price, get everything filled out and the see a box for a discount code and then scrap the whole thing! I have done searches on google and found some codes that apply to the company, but it is usually for some widgit that I have no interest in.

Fortunately one can drag the slider thru the attempts to be funny and all the ads. Can watch an episode in 15 minutes that way.

I agree and the tutorials by Dave and Matt are normally better the Kelby's too. That is why I have a hard time buying Scott's books. I don't mind a little humor but it gets to be a little much with him.

I joined NAPP a couple of years ago and have learned alot from their tutorials. Some of it is way cool stuff that you wouldn't normally do with a photo but fun nonetheless. I have bought a number of plug-ins for photoshop and the discounts that they provide via this have paid for my membership a couple of times over.

There is no question about the value of membership. I have saved a small fortune on purchases etc since joining. But that is not the main thrust of this post.

I have always been bugged by Scott Kelby's attempts at humor in his books and on that NAPP TV webcast. But, I went to a seminar recently where he was the speaker for the day. Totaly different in person. Some humor, but not too much and what there was did not get in the way of the learning process. I would do it again.
