Being absolutely honest, I'm finding the harsh shadows, lack of overall sharpness, and noise in the photos fairly distracting.

I'm inclined to agree. The one you have of the female holding his head in her... bosom looks good though, the black and white. In all honesty, the shadows and harsh lighting kind of overpower your images.
I would use some diffusers and reflectors to help control the lighting of the sun, as I love natural lighting, but this is way too much.
Maybe some dodging and burning in photoshop would help your shadows/highlight details, and some light healing brushes around their eyes to help soften the "bags" would be good too.

Maybe it's not critical for every e-session, but you almost captured the ring in one of the shots.

Thanks a lot for the c+c guys,.. yeah about the lack of overall sharpness, and noise in the photos that u see in this forum.but not w the original photo. i guess ...is it because.. u know i have to compress the size less than100kb,and since i used the max size that they allow here is that could be the reason?
also this is the first time i try my 40d and i realize from the beginning that we're not in the perfect time to have an e session.(direct sun light+open field)but i do use a diffuser for my 580II.
