I came across Miguel Lasa's post on dpreview forum, followed a link to his site. I must say he's by far the best bird photographer I've ever come across.
Here is a link to his gallery (http://www.miguellasa.com)

What kind of woman? Never thought "perfect" and "woman" can be seen in one sentence, just like "stable" and "Micro$oft" ...

I visited his page on photosig.com, and he uses 1D MK II + EF 500mm for bird photography.
Scott, time for a new lens?

I've been lusting after the 500mm f/4 for some time now. I just can't reason my way into spending about $6,000 (counting a Wimberley, etc.)
Some day...

Sell your 400mm and get a 500mm, i'm sure those shots do a great job convincing you to move up.
Just imagine 500mm x 1.6 ... the focal length plus the contrast, sharpness, colour ...

It aint about the lens here... that's for sure.
You could hand me a 1200mm f/5.6L tomorrow and I still wouldn't bring home pics that good :?

About $80-90K US. Something like that.

I bet we could knock that price down to about $60,000 if we did a group purchase. Who's in? :)
On a more serious note, those are some incredible images.
