STILL confused about posting images...

I've followed the steps for setting up EE, and now I'm ready to populate the database. I'm still confused on how to do that most effeciently. I'd like to have an images folder with a drill down approach, ie:
'images/year/month/day/imagefile.jpg' or
'images/1999/01/01/19990101-001.jpg'.
I know, somewhat anal, but i have thousands of pics and it's the only way I can effectively organize them.

Is this possible in EE? From my understanding I'd have to setup an individual path for each folder I want to do this with (so potentially a folder for each day of the year).

Can someone please just verify this before I start this huge task...

For what you are wanting I would go with organizing your galleries in the form you want, and leave the upload directory as a single one.

If that does not appeal to you then you would have to use the path setup and set up the size methods to go to the directories you want.

You could set up just a few paths, Today, Yesturday, . . . then just change the path associated with the size method when you get ready to upload to a different day.

the only thing I'm concerned about is having thousands of photos in a single directory, and the having to find things in there at times.

I'm not too sure i completely understand your second suggestion, about switching paths whenever I need to...

Under the Path Setup screen you define a series of size paths.

Then one the UPLOAD screen you see each one of these listed here.

Once you have transfered your images to the UPLOAD directory you then select the Size Path you want to add your images to, along with what gallery and some other settings.

It is when you press the upload button at the bottom that your single image from the UPLOAD directory is processed and then FTPed into the specified directory listed in the Size Path. At the same time the information in placed in your EE data base.
At this time the connection between your pictures and the Size Path has been copied into the database and is no longer tied the Size Path setting.
This means that you can now go back to your Size Path screen, change the directories associated with them, commit the change, and upload more images that would go into different directories (the new ones you just specified). While at the same time the images you have already uploaded into you EE database don't change location.

I'm not always clear but will keep trying different ways of saying it until I (at random) hit upon one that makes sence :roll:
