Manfotto 049 MIDI, QUICK LOCK STAND A19 (http://www.manfrotto.com/webdav/site/manfrotto/shared/_images/Lighting/product_images/zoom/0/049.jpg)
specs (http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/pid/2505)

Just wondering if anyone uses this stand...I have two that I got for free and was wondering if I can use this with various strobes since I'm looking to get a set in the near future. I'm looking at the Alien Bees 800, Elinchrom D-Lite 2 or 4, or the Calumet Genesis Kit. I'll probably get some heavy duty stands should I purchase softboxes for the lights but was wondering if these stands would be sufficient enough if using umbrellas.

Also one of the stand is threaded and the other is not, any reason why?

I have Manfrotto 051b and 052b. About the same specs I'd think.

I use them with my Lumedynes, and they are more then sturdy enough for that, in the studio or, weighted down, outside. I wouldn't want to use them outside or at max height with heavy monoblocks / light shapers (large softbox) though, especially the 051, due to the smaller "footprint". Use a 005 for that.

The threaded / not threaded: That's just a different 'head option' manfrotto offers AFAIK; some lights need the threaded, because you can screw on a head or a smaller sized spigot.

Cheers Rene, thanks for the info. I figured out what the symbols meant and saw that the max weight capacity was 5lbs which I guess is o.k enough to hold an AB800 for example and an umbrella. I guess I can always teak it too to use it to hold reflectors.
