View Full Version : Carrying Case for Canon G6...Compact Flash Card... Recomend?

Well I bit the bullet and ordered a G6 today. I was wondering if anyone who has a G6, other G series cameras, can recommend a decent, "smaller" sized case that will help to protect the camera but not be to cumbersome to carry around. One with a shoulder and belt strap would be great. Maybe go with a Canon brand case? Tamrac? Others?

I also might want to get a second, larger one for when I carry my 420 ex.

The only cases I have around here are for my S200 or for my old SLRs.

Any recomendations on Flash Card Brands? Thinking about a 512. Good brands? Brands to stay away from?

Thanks,

Denman

Hi Denman,
Here's a link to an earlier conversation on the subject of camera bags for the "G" cameras.

Hope this helps to answer some of your questions. :D

Thanks for the link. I did a search before I posted, but I didn't stumble across that thread.

It was just what I was looking for.

I use the offical canon case http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=2450179490&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X2 92ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=61136 for when i am just taking the camera out with no extras and i use a small camcorder bag http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43432&item=3846496 269&tc=photo when i am taking extra batteries, cards etc.

As for cards i use a 256MB x24 and a 512MB x40 made by PQI and a 1GB one made by Kingston and they work fine.

You're welcome. :D Yeah, That thread was from a while back, making it much harder to find. I did a search too(Knowing it was there) and came up blank also. I back tracked through my own threads to the approximate date to find it.

I got the Tamrac Digital 3 - it just fits in there, with a bit of room at top for the strap to stuff in. It's a much easier fit than the G3, which I had a very hard time finding a small case for.

For the larger case, check out the Digital 8 - I use that with my 380EX - not sure how your flash compares to that in size. The 380EX sticks up a bit higher than would be ideal, but it still closes easily. I can fit camera, flash, and still have room for accessories, or even another compact camera.

I use a LowePro case (model D-Res 25AW) that a G2 fits into quite nicely. There is also a slot for a memory card although I don't use it because I've found it very easy for the card to slide out unnoticed. Instead I've fastened a LowePro memory card holder (labeled D-Res 4) to the belt strap that is on the back of the case. It holds 3 cards.

One of the things I like about the LowePro line is it is equipped with a waterproof panel that tucks into the case that can readily be pulled out should you be caught in the rain. Zippers unfortunately aren't waterproof.

LowePro is at www.lowepro.com

I've been using the Caselogic CAS ES 6 to carry my G3 with the lensmate tube adapter attached. It goes in lens first and rest on two supports that I've velcro'd into the interior of the bag so that all the weight of the camera is not resting on the tube/filter. Misc. other stuff like remote, extra CF, microfiber cloth, etc. go into the expandable outer pocket.

I ususally don't expand it unless more stuff needs to travel with me. Their is another zippered area that is inside the main compartment that is build into the handle flap. That is where I place the video cords. In a pinch I could probably fit the recharging unit that came with the G3 kit into the main compartment.

In addition to the shoulder strap, It also comes with a fanny pack belt that tucks away nicely when not in use. Didn't think I would ever use that feature but noticed that I use it more on more on walks through the parks to keep my hands free to take pictures and to "supervise" my 2 daughters.

This bag also doubles for my Optura 200MC dvc.
