I took some pictures of my mom's valentine's day present she received. The rose was beautiful, but the baby's breath was the most fun to take pictures of. Only one came out half decent though. Thanks for looking.

I like the 4 a lot. I feel as if the composition could be slightly improved by framing the entire flower, or at least with a tad more buffer on the bottom. Otherwise I think it's great. The first 3 are good, but IMO the crops are too tight.
edit: Looking at the first one again, I actually like that composition a lot. The center of the rose looks like a cup, which I think is pretty cool :) I think I'd like it more if the DOF was a bit deeper.

Thanks for the comments. If they aren't toasted in two days I will be sure to give your input a few shots. Just a side note, I'm not big into cropping, so none was done on any of these. With that said, maybe I need to widen my shots and crop slightly later depending on the shot...I can't add to what isn't there, right?

Well, by crop I mean the composition (I assumed they could be used interchangeably, I'm new to photography as well, and I learn by myself... mostly): the composition IMO is too tight around the rose, and I think it would look better if it were backed out so there was more in the photo.

Agreed. Sometimes I wish I could snap off the flash on my XT and move it behind the subject having my flash still work, haha. Not quite that simple. Thanks for the input. Personally, I don't like how the front on lighting of a flash works with most object, mainly flowers. I couldn't cary my lighting into the kitchen or there might have been slightly more please shots from yesterday.

You should try building a makeshift extension that is used commonly in macro rigs. It's essentially a hollow cardboard tube that is fitted with reflective material on the inside to basically change the flash position. Most are made for shoe flashes but I don't see why it wouldn't work for the pop-up flash.

cardboard, who'd of thought? I've tried alluminum foil and gave up because it wouldn't keep it's shap. Thanks for the idea!
