I am in the market for a Flash for my G5, for general use, and would like it to be as automated as possible, but with room for me to be creative.

Now the 550EX sounds ideal, except for the price, (over my budget) which brings me down to the 420EX, where I would lose some features (like Strobe)

I am thinking about the Sigma EF 500 SUPER DG Flashgun, which I can get for £10 less than the 420!

Has anyone got any advice / experience on any of these, or have any other reccomendations?

I am in photography as a hobby, which I still consider myself new to, but am enjoying learning, never intend to make money / a living from it, so having absolutey perfect, money no object kit, isnt an issue, but I do want things to work well and give good results.

Cheers.

Jim, I dont have any experience with the Sigma unit, as I have the 550EX, but I DO know that as long as the trigger voltage is safe(6 volts or less I think) you can use just about any flash that has a manual setting while using the aperture to regulate distance.
Having said that, I STRONGLY recommend you get one of the Canon EX series. This way you KNOW it's right.

Cheers for that, it is sold as canon compatable, so belive its voltage will be fine, and should work fully auto (I Hope) would love the 550, but cant afford one, so if anyone wants to buy me one, i'll be your best friend ;)

Anyone using any other alternatives? find em good or bad?
