I'm very new to photography, and I'm curious if there is a Macro season. Most of the macro shots I've seen are of leaves, flowers, and bugs. With winter coming, leaves are dying, flowers are going away, and bugs are leaving. So, is Macro season leaving us? I know there are a few plants that stay green all year round. And, I know there are greenhouses with flowers all year. But, for the most part, most of the macro shot subjects are about to be gone until about March of next year or so.

So, during the winter months, does the focus turn more toward landscapes and portraits?

Curious...

I've seen some great macros of frost and ice on different things.

Macro is year round it just takes a special eye to see them.

I'm usually too busy in the spring through fall for macro. Winter is when I start staying indoors more, climbing the walls, and take macro shots.

We have bugs and flowers here all year round. I just don't like taking pictures of them, so using that logic, it's never macro season here.

hmmm... I just can't think of anything to take macro shots of during the winter (other than my silk plant in my computer room).

Everything looks different in macro. My refrigerator is a stockpile of macro subjects. The old wooden boards in my basement. Cats when they're sleeping. Soapsuds in the sink. Tools. Nuts & bolts. Oh, the list goes on. It's a whole new world when viewed 1:1.

Worst case, go to the supermarket and buy a cheap bouquet of floors for 3-4 days of macro subjects.

You said you were "new" so i'm not sure if you went through a winter yet. The winter is not nearly as interesting as the summer/spring/fall.

Everything is white, animals all go into hiding. It can get cold and lonely.

But it tests your creative side, and so i'm sure you'll start seeing this around your house differntly. Forks, paper clips, sinks, you name it. You'll see

theres always the old favourite too...coins.... or the dogs nose..... Ice crystals..... icicles with little drips of water coming from them..... im sure you also have a refridgerator full of lots of interesting food/fruit ...as scottes said you start to look at things in a whole new way, no matter what it is when you view it at 1:1.... winter is also a very cool time for some bird shots (not macro but still cool) they are hungry at that time of year so its easy to get them into you "studio"........... if you feed them they will come ;) you should think yourself lucky , i live in Scotland where it rains about 80% of the year it seems, so even in summer you're pushed to get a good day for bug/flower shots...
