A few night shots...one taken tonight, the other taken last winter. Proof positive that camera and lens make little difference. It's all about the composition.

How long was your exposure for # 1?? I like the image, but the motion blur of the clouds is a bit distracting, since the remainder of the image is static and very sharp. Even the light trails are "static" and sharp compared to the clouds, yet we all know the cars were moving.

Thanks for the comments!

#1 was a 30 sec exposure. I agree with your comment on the clouds. They are in no-mans land as far as movement goes. A shorter exposure would have helped the sharpness of the clouds. But an even longer exposure, 1 or 2 min, would have allowed the clouds to drag across the scene. Which would have given them a more wispy look, which I like. I'll have to think about that more, next time I'm out at night.

Aside from the clouds on the first shot I like them a lot. I am planning to take some night shots from a bridge in my area that overlooks a freeway junction. I hope they tune out well. I'll post them if they turn out.

Did you go out for your photo shoot yet? Post any photos?

For freeway shots I like to set the Av to 8 or 11 and use a long bulb exposure. That way you get a good number of headlight trails, and they will extend all the way across your photo. If you use a shorter shutter speed, sometimes the trails will end right in the middle of you shot, which looks a little strange.
