Not too bad I like the photo - it has got character to it!
here are a few things to think about though whith I think would make it a better shot:
1) have the mother and baby facing each other and tell the mother to look lovingly in the her adorable baby's eyes...
2) If you were shoot from that angle ensure that the mother's nose doesn't cross the bridge of her cheek on the far side - it makes her nose appear longer than it is.
3) If you want the baby to face the window, shoot from an angle such that the baby's right eye is not at a weird angle - it looks distorted like that - that's also why I'd suggested to havethe baby facing the mother instead - you could turn the mother and the baby accordingly to ensure enough light is on both faces.
4) read up about Rembrandt style lighting you can achieve it in this situation with the side light from the window - would look good on the mother giving a sense of depth.
5) loosen the mother and baby up with some humor perhaps - you have better expression that way.
As for the PP, you've done a great job - you should be proud of your work! the only thing about portraits is - you may like to soften the look a bit more - you're shooing a lot of detail on the mother's cheeks which would look more pleasing perhaps if it was a little softer..?
Anyway, overall I think you did great - better than a lot of others we get on forums in general - so I hope yo don't feel like I'm shooting you down - I'm not! ;) Hope what i\I'd said helps!
cheers,
Lucas

Kids at this age have amazing eyes if you can get them to look at the camera long enough. For this same shot, maybe turn both of them toward you a bit and away from the window? it'd add a bit of depth to it and loosen up the harsh light on the baby.
