I noticed for this first time today that I can change the DPI when doing a batch conversion from RAW to JPG. The default is 350 DPI. Should I mess with this at all, and what does this mean?

You can change it if you like, you won't damage anything.
If your ultimate output is 250ppi (for example), it might suit your workflow to set the resolution at the time of raw conversion, so you don't have to worry about it later on.
Some good info in Tim's FAQ - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=3740438

Just leave it as it is. This will be more than suitable for viewing on your monitor or printing.

is it better to have it at 300DPI for printing or 350?
i changed my setting to 300 because of printing.

Whatever suits your needs ...
Our pro lab asks for 250ppi, others need 300 or 350.

The number in the Exif is arbitrary and irrelevent. The real ppi will be determined at the time of printing by the relationship between the pixel dimensions of the image and the size of the print. Until you get to the printing phase, forget about it. When you do print, you can send anything between 180 and 480 unless, a.) the lab asks for a specific ppi or b.) you want to do the final sharpening after resizing yourself.

I'm thinking about getting a few prints. A few questions.
1. Where's the best place to go for not too much $$?
2. Do I just take them my CF card or my camera???

Most pro labs accept your photos over the web. It's a handy way to go.
A local consumer lab would have a kiosk for your CF card. They'll look at you strangely if you turn up with your camera.
