They seem to be very high-contrast scenes, and I suspect no digital camera would have the dynamic range to capture them terribly well. In the top one, for example, the blown highlights where the rear pole passes in front of the top of the snow intrude inwards as if the pole was notched. This creates the false impression that this is the base of the pole, and the reflection is grounded from this point. Careful inspection is needed to realise that this is not the case. Anyway, the blown (completely white) areas make the picture overly harsh to look at. I think you have to wait for a different time of day where the sky is not so much brighter than the other parts of the image.
The second image is better, but the sky is still featurelessly white. It's amazing how much better a blue-tinted or interestingly cloudy sky looks. Otherwise, it seems ok, but perhaps the little focused foreground isn't quite enough to balance the dominant but out-of-focus mid and background...?
