HELP! This is driving me nuts!!!!! I live in MA and I'm trying to find an insurance provider to insure my gear with. I don't want to join an photographers association unless I have to. It seems like nobody wants to insure the poor @#$!'s that live here....
I don't have renters insurance and I'm looking for around $5,000 "all risk" coverage.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Try and get a Personal Articles Policy.

I have mine through State Farm.
Covers all my photography equiptment and Computers.

It's nice to have the peace of mind that if i drop all my gear in the ocean it's covered.

hmmmm....well, I have a insurance wich is covering all of my gear. but unfortunately it wont work for you, because I'm living in austria/europe. but...if it is available here, it should be also available at your place. as I know, there seems to be just one insurance company in austria, wich offer this service, its bundled in the houshold insurance.. maybe this could help you!

I got 12k in insurance from State Farm for $158 per year. It's called Personal Item Policy. I'm protected against everything.

I have my auto and renter's insurance through State Farm. They've insured high dollar notebooks and pagers for me before. So, I'm sure they'd insure a camera.

Yes, I also have my home, autos, boat, and camera with State Farm. I've got about $3600 of coverage on my camera for $42/year.

The type of policy you're looking for is an "Inland Marine" policy. Mine is with Erie, but they don't do Mass. The Hartford offers this coverage in addition to the State Farm policies several others have mentioned.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Here's the problem. ALMOST NO ONE INSURES IN MA. State Farm would be great except that they don't do business here.

How much do you pay for your insurance?

I live in Germany and the only insurance I have found so far is a 'camera insurance' that costs $ 52 per $1000 value (5%).

This seems a bit steep to me... does anyone (especially living in Europe) have cheaper alternatives?

Best regards,
Andy

Prices do vary alot depending on where you are as well as what company you get your insurance with. I live in Texas.
I'm with an insurance company you have to be (or have been) in the US military to qualify for so they tend to have some very good rates.

But even with that I'm only paying around $8 per 1000 value for a year.

52 per 1000 sounds a bit high.

I'm paying about 1% per year with Erie. If you're in the mid-Atlantic states they have good deals all around (home, car, camera gear, . . . )

That's wayyy too much. I'd suggest shopping around (I'm not in Europe though).
