So I decided to take a few shots since they were in the neighborhood, and I like this one. What could I have done to better this shot?

Without seeing the EXIF information for this pic it's hard to know if this is possible, however what I'd like to see is more motion blur in this image. The way you've capture it makes it look like this athlete is standing still, couple that with the fact his head is bent, and I'm left with the impression he is exhausted.

If you were going for a stop action photo, I'd like to see something a bit more head on, with the cyclist looking at or past you.

Thanks for the comment Jukas. I hear you, it needs more aggressivenes and excitement. This was during a practice round, and he just seemed to meditate at the end of the day before the big game. Now, there may be a bit more attitude in this following shot:
